Hello
Me and Geddes were thinking, or rather I was thinking he just nodded along of having a handfasting down your way if you can think of a nice stone circly type out door place we'd be allowed to do it when we eventually do the marriage thing. We would of course also be needing a reception venue and a deal on a good hotel
hows you?

Sowwy...
The best stone circle on Dartmoor is Grey Wethers:

But it's all uphill for a couple of miles to get to it, and if the weather is slightly ropey it really hangs around there. So I wouldn't really recommend that one unless you're feeling fit and brave!
Fernworthy is pretty good, a lot closer to the road and is in the woods, so it's quite a nice setting and if much more sheltered:

My own favourite is probably Merrivale, which consists of two long stone rows, with a standing stone and a circle made up of tiny stones nearby:

It's very close to a car park, and there's a good pub just over the road
I think Fernworthy would probably be the best one for you, because it's a lovely setting and a little more remote than Merrivale - plus, Merrivale is more famous for the stone rows than the circle.
We can certainly do you a reception here - buffets start from £6 including room hire, sit-down meals from £12 for three courses and coffee. Depending on how many of you there would be, I might be able to do it a bit cheaper or chuck in a freebie or two. If you're having a reception here and having a few people stay over, the deluxe four-poster room with balcony would be one thing I could let you have for nothing. not included, of course

Don't worry! must be a busy time of year for you ..
All those links look really pretty but i think we'd have to go for the one with a car park rather than trek everyone through the woods..im far from fit too
Pries sound just fine. I'm not sure how many people thered be, probably about 70 though once we've counted all the distant rellies weve not seen in years etc and i dont know how many of them would want to stay or drive back.
We're looking at late next year at the sonest at the mo, just getting some ideas. I need to be able to fit in a dress smaller than a 10 man tent first
