The Cruising Guide Entry is now lurking in the EGWW, so i shall leave it in your capable (?) hands. Please be kind to it, fondle it gently & tweak its little parts as you see fit!

Well, that entry was too good to waste, as everyone in the thread agreed.

I've taken the draft and spent the last hour editing the GuideML and linking it up to the eyeballs; I'd like to submit it to PR, where I will respond to all the comments, make changes as required and incorporate any suggestions. You won't have to do a stitch more, other than observe the passage of the PR thread if you want to.

When the entry gets picked, I will request the sub-editor removes my name from it - hey presto, your first solo-written entry smiley - smiley

It's at A12118169

How's that for a deal?

If you wish. But please don't credit it as a "solo written entry" 'cos it obviously isn't! I changed it lots of times from the original draft.Plus whatever changes others have made should be credited.

Personally, i don't feel it's actually worth bothering about, it's bland & fairly uninformative, but if EG is as desperate as Jim seems to think; OK, i will add my ten penn'orth. Words is words. I've been talking to someone else on MSN tonight who is going to now do a GE, so i am "doing my bit" to encourage other folks.

When i have some cash i will photocopy the original & send you. i feel rather ashamed at carving up & sanitising it, but it was done with the best intentions. Jim put out an appeal to all ACES to bung in a GE & i tried to do my bit, this seemed the quickest & easiest route.

A couple of points, if i may:

<<>>

*I changed the second "less" to "fewer" I really would prefer that to be changed, it's bad writing style to repeat the same word when another serves equally well, plus grammatically it is more correct.

I see the final sentence has been deleted; why is this? Is it because it refers to h2g2?

You may sling this into PR if you wish, but i would prefer you be credited as co-author since you have done as much & possibly more work on the thing. Plus, if you are going to be taking the inevitable flak, it seems only fair that you get credited!

I've taken out the final sentence, because there wasn't any information on how to get Internet access in it, so it didn't make sense to leave it in. If it had said 'you can get Internet access on a narrowboat by doing the following blah blah blah', it would have been fine, but it was a bit vague and didn't add anything to the entry.

It's looking like a great entry, as commenters in the previous thread all said, so you're doing yourself a disservice by saying it's 'bland and uninformative' smiley - smiley

I've submitted this to PR now, and I don't think there will be much 'flak' - the thread is at F48874?thread=3088797. I will get my name removed as a co-author as planned, as I've only added the GuideML to it - all the real work was done by you.

smiley - ok

I've just emailed you with the additional bits about sliding headlong into a lock & chilly sides.

Yeah, i suppose these days anyone who owns a laptop (lucky sods!) knows about all this.

I just wish there was a way of getting some humour into this, it isn't my usual style (as you very well know!smiley - winkeye)

Anyway, i still would prefer you were credited somehow too. i know it's possible to have two people credited 'cos Spim & i did this a lot (see Home of Today A1089056 for example)

At the end it's listed as "Terri and Yoda, with assistance from Spimcoot"; later, when he was staying with me & we actually sat side by side doing it (as it were!!!) he was listed as co-author.
