Spread the word round the other buckle bunnies, anyway! Once they get to hear about the size of my stirrups, there'll be no stopping them smiley - smiley

I'll spread the word - right after I finish strutting about swelled with pride (well... swelled, anyway) about being a FP author.

For which I have to thank you for being incredibly patient with my hissy fit over the whole PR thing.

Did you find any cowboys, or do you plan to wiggle your way back to the one that says 'ooh-arr' instead of 'yeeah-harr'? smiley - smiley

Hi Rich, and Sho,

Reviving an old thread to share an oddity: A14455352

smiley - tongueout

Am I silly to think it is totally off the wall?

EF Email sent off yesterday and as yet unreplied to. I am not sure whether to bring it up *points head* over there or not... What d'you two think?

Oh, I thought someone was after a bareback ride for a minute... smiley - laugh

I did happen to see this yesterday and my initial thought was that it was a bit frivilous. However, I'm starting to quite like it. I'm no Dr Who fan; in fact I think it's a fairly dull series that people attach too much importance to - but taking that bias away, it's a quirky picture that shows the bridge in a rather unexpected light. Compared to a standard 'tourist snap' view of the bridge, I'd say this was preferable. Just my smiley - 2cents - it's all in the eye of the beholder, and I probably wouldn't be too happy to find a photo of a dalek in one of my South west Coast Path Entries, for example!

There have been worse; see A3407366 and F1968891?thread=560785 smiley - biggrin

It also worth remembering that the Eds have access to a relatively small number of pictures; this might actually have been the only one they could find!

well, first look I thought "smiley - cool"

then I realised that what I really liked about the entry was the description of the actual bridge and the colour
and then I got a bit smiley - grr

Personally, Dr Who is just about my favourite programme ever, but if a Dalek had been shoehorned onto one of my entries I'd have been a lot miffed.

what did the Eds say, Wilma?

'...if a Dalek had been shoehorned onto one of my entries I'd have been a lot miffed.'

That's it; if you see it that the Eds have added the blob just to get a picture of the dalek into the Guide, then you'll think it's inappropriate. If you think it's there because it's a very different photo to any other you see of the bridge, then you'll think it's entirely suitable for an EG entry.

Of course, if you know h2g2 has a tradition of having Dr Who fans at the top, you'll probably jump to the former conclusion, which I happen to think is the wrong one.

nuffink

yet

*sniffle*

I really don't like it. I linked to the picture I would have liked. I would rather have no BLOB at all than that one.

smiley - yikes did I just say that?

Nah, I can't possibly have done smiley - tongueout

well, I am aware that there is tension on the site from time to time over the perceived Whoieness of the whole thing.

I do think there are enough Who entries which could have Dalek blobs, without this marvellous bridge being obscured by one. Apart from anything else, the entry has that fantabulous title - the Dalek detracts.

I can't actually believe that I'm arguing against a dalek picture. smiley - laugh

smiley - wah

They changed the title too *sniff*

Post 16

I did think that was a possibility, but when it was suggested in PR, I thought, why pre-empt them? Shame, though, I thought it was a great title smiley - sadface I would imagine that it's party because the title of a webpage is key to where it appears in search engines, and people are much more likely to search for 'Hammersmith Bridge London' than 'Hammersmith Bridge Diva'. The new title will push it up Google and MSN more than the old one.

Great advice you gave in the Corvette Entry, by the way smiley - smiley

The irony is that if you put the search for the bridge in quotes, the original appears on the first page of Google! smiley - biggrin

Hi Rich,

It was 'Hammersmith Bridge, London - a diva of a bridge'. I agree, I fully expected the title to change but the blob is a big disappointment smiley - sadface Ah well...

Thanks, btw. I dip in and out of PR and wonder if I am doing enough now that I have discovered the AWW smiley - winkeye I certainly don't seem to have as much time to write any more ...

Well, I think we need more constructive criticism like the advice you gave there. It was exactly right; friendly, encouraging and critical in the right places. Some of the best Scouts here don't realise how good they are, you know.
