Psycorp, I use this one for recording:
http://www.pcab.co.uk/ebay/labtec%20242.jpg
I've seen it's as cheap in the UK as it is here (I saw it listed for £ 4.99).

My next job is to update A13264670 with all the new information, as it is quite out of date. Subscribe to that, Opti, as I'll use it to inform the community about new projects and ideas. Keep your eye on The Post as well, of course!
You can get pretty good, cheap microphones for a fiver in most electrical retailers. connect it up to your soundcard, download Audacity, and you're off.
Matt - thanks very much! I'll be in touch as soon as the plaudits have died down

You've plaudits too? I find a little bit of milk helps settle them down.

Skanky...I played it through on silent first and did something else. Then came back to it and watched it so it was nice and smooth, no stops and starts. One thing I noticed was I thought it was Websailor reading the article instead of Lil. lil and Websailor. Perhaps this ought to be clearer. Say entry created by Websailor, voiceover provided by Lil and pictures by Skankyrich next time. to nitpick. I was just confused having not read first.
I'm not sure I have one of those headsets ... I was thinking of webcam I'll see what I can conjure up and will be sure to subscribe if you let me now I made a nitpick.

Already got Audacity, using it to put forward my audio portfolio - nothing suitable for casting though, it's all ads.

I'm not really here Posted Mar 13, 2008
I use my mobile phone as a camera, which means it lacks a good zoom, but I did get the best cameraphone they had (without spending £££££ on the one with optical zoom).
It has meant that I can't edit my own clips due to them being in a format my pc didn't recognise, but now that I've got a better laptop I will be trying to find a programme that will convert them so I can edit myself. In the meantime Skanky very kindly edits them for me.
My main problem is that I find narration too difficult, so any volunteers would be warmly welcomed.

Skankyrich [?] Posted Mar 13, 2008
Webcams would work fine, Opti. One of the ideas for poetry and short stories was for the poet to read into a webcam and record it. you don't need a headset microphone, either - my set-up is simply a normal, handheld mic running into my soundcard.
It's interesting that you mention the credits, because it's something I thought long and hard about. The difficulty with crediting each and every clip on the clip is that there were so many people involved - for the Photographers' Showcase, for example, I'd have to credit eight photographers, one musician and a producer. I took the view that this would just be messy, and would detract from the fairly fast pace of the clips. In the end I decided, by and large, to credit the writer of the piece, and in most cases the writer had a hand in the AV anyway. Webbie very helpfully tailored her article to my clips. Mina sent me footage of her dogs. Bel sorted out all her own visual content. So I thought it was quite fair to do it this way, as long as everyone involved received full credit for their contributions in The Post. Ultimately, I don't think it really matters from a viewer's point of view who actually did the narration, as long as the clip looks and sounds good.
Hope this explains, and sorry for the confusion!

I do apologise, by the way. I seem to have forgotten where mn shift key is. Very messy.

I thought the credits were great as they were, but if people want more info on each piece perhaps it could be added as text somewhere? I'm not really worried, but I did wonder which northern lass was narrating the birds. It's nice for people if they can thank the right people - also I thought it was really fascinating hearing the voices of Researchers I haven't met, and it would be nice to be able to put a name to the voice.
Maybe if we're feeling brave we can have a credits page with our photos on it, adding on credits as we go on with the AV. Just a thought! A lot of us have photos from meets we could use.

aww, I like being a faceless, voiceless entity...
I will submit to the AViators at some point. Apparently my reading voice is quite nice.

Like the Producer's Notes in the Post? I had that open while I was watching, just so I could see who had a hand in what.

well I'll have to ask my lil sis how to work the technology out. I've never found it necessary to use it before so it will be good to learn a new skill.
I should have read first or at least have that page open to see who'd done what.

Rich, thank you so much for all your hard work. And everyone else, That's brilliant. The whole thing was fascinating. I have a couple of suggestions but I will email those.
Did you edit my words or did Lil? Whoever, it was a great job of cutting all that stuff down to the right size, yet leaving nothing out. I shall have to learn to be more succinct!

Lil, the Voice Over was lovely, gentle and sympathetic and fitted well with Rich's video clips. Thank you very much for all your work.
Sorry I was a bit late coming online but my other life claimed my attention urgently this morning.
That is a brilliant start to what I hope will grow in stature. It is early to ask, and you must be shattered, but are these going out regularly or just occasionally? There is a not of work.
for everyone
