Hey! I guess we're both online right now and I figured I should write you directly instead of on that review page. I have some questions...

I have written 2 reviews already and I can see them in my personal page, but how can I get them indexed for the search engine? I already hit the submit button yesterday but they don't show up.

What should I do about these old entries? Should I submit them to another "review" site instead of peer review?

Thanks so much for your help!smiley - tongueout

Hi Rudy - glad you contacted me; it looks like you could use some help.smiley - smiley

You should always be able to find things on h2g2 via the search engine. Unless it doesn't work. Which is often. But it does look like your entries didn't get submitted the way you thought they did. They're there on your space, sure, but it looks like they didn't get submitted to whatever Review Forum you were trying to put them in. You have to hit the 'Submit For Review' button, in the sidebar of the entry.

Good subjects for entries, though - like Boston. I'm having a passionate love affair with Boston. I used to live near Boston once.smiley - biggrin But the thing is, for these to go into the Edited Guide, you need to flesh them out quite a bit. You've made a great start. But Peer Review is for entries that are completely finished and ready to go, and I can tell by the fact that yours say 'more later' at the bottom that they aren't.smiley - winkeye

Don't get discouraged, though - cause we have a forum just for you! It's called Writing-Workshop, and it's for entries that need a little more work to be ready for Peer Review. I wish I could tell you how to fix up your entry, but I suck at that. So why don't you take both of them down to the Writing Workshop and let the folks there tell you how you can improve them?

As for the original four? Well, back in the early days of h2g2 anyone could submit anything to any forum (well, there was only Peer Review back in the day, but you get the idea). But now we have a problem, which is that even if you do submit these entries to Writing-Alternative (which is the right forum for them - it's for entries that *don't* meet the <./>writing-guidelines</.&gtsmiley - winkeye you won't be able to get in to edit them and make them better, because they're written by someone else. Now we do have a procedure here for current Researchers taking on entries that have been left behind by vanished ones and still need polishing, so I think if you were to copy and paste these existing entries into new ones (with your name on them), and then submit them to the Alternative Writing Workshop saying that someone else had written them but you wanted to see them polished up, that would be okay. In the event that your entries make it through the AWW, they can be selected for the UnderGuide, the fiction/memoir/etc. version of the Edited Guide. It has a place on the front page too, down at the bottom, and they have between 1-3 new entries each week.

Well, I hope that answers your questions more or less. If you're curious about anything else, please don't hesitate to ask me. I'm a Scout and a Sub-editor here, and so it's my job to see that the Guidelines are followed and good entries get into the EG. So I'm certainly happy to help.smiley - cheers

Thanks for the advice. I resubmitted some of my stuff and I think things are moving along. I also resubmitted those old entries and I guess we'll see what happens. However, my entries have yet to be indexed into the search engine. Am I doing something wrong? Can you try for me? Thanks!smiley - ok

If I search for the titles of the entry in the search box at the top of the page, then they come up fine. I don't know what your problem is.smiley - erm

You also need to make sure to remove the four old entries from Peer Review. If you click on the little yellow star next to where they appear in the Peer Review listing, that will remove them from the forum.

I see that you've put things in better places. Good job!smiley - ok
