Say, I just joined novel newbies and saw your intro, and noticed to my horror you said that you lost motivation on your novel because of trawling through and making corrections. Never, ever do that!!! smiley - wah
That endless editing of what you've already written will totally destroy your creative drive. There's are two modes of writing really, the creative and the editorial. Never let the editorial side control the creative, it will destory your writing drive quicker than a hammer on the head. The trick is not to edit extensively until after you've finished your book. Think of the initial writing as a first draft and whatever you write can easily be fixed when you come to the second draft, and so on until the book is finally polished and finished. When you're on that first draft, you have to give free reign to the creative drive, no editorials, no picking and no huffing over it ... just do it, all the way to the end, only then can you start to go into editorial mode. that's my advice after writing novels for near on eighteen years ...
hope this makes some sense to you.
