I am responding to your postings in general.
I have wanted to reply to your posts more than once but I always seem to show up late or too tired. I find you a rather dependable voice of reason.

I do not post as much as before.
I do lurk and have been around for about 3 years. My reading dropped off for a while when things were stuck on repeat and always in flames.

You have brought some new life back to the placesmiley - somersault
I want to thank you for my first laugh of the day.
I ran acrossed your idea for a smiley - a dog raising it's leg on a lampostsmiley - laughI love it!
Better than my can of worms idea or the fire truck suggestion which I also liked.

Intelligent and reasonable with a sense of humor makes for a well rounded person. I find all of the above in your posts and have really appreciated reading them.

May I add you to my friends list so that I can more easily read your posts? I promise not put you on a pedestal so high it would hurt if you fell occaissionallysmiley - biggrin

Potholer

Hi, Abbi, thanks for your comments.
Certainly, I'm happy to be on your friends list.

Actually, though I do try to be reasonable, that is often as a result of counting to ten before hitting 'Post Mesage', and deleting many posts, either for being a bit extreme, or for fear of encouraging the occasional troll.

I'd been pondering during yesterday if sometimes, though what I write might usually be intended as staying the correct side of inflammatory, albeit rather close at times, it may be a little too easy to interpret otherwise, especially on the religion front, and especially for people not always reading every word in my posts.

As it happens, unexpected circumstances on Friday evening resulted in my chatting for a few hours with a vicar on the subjects of consciousness, religion, free will, etc, and I realised:
a) Just how much common ground we actually had, though sometimes from different perspectives
b) He wasn't particularly keen on dogmatic literalists either
c) It's actually very easy to find common ground in one-on-one conversations where it might be rather harder in groups, since it's easier to tell when someone doesn't have quite the same interpretation of words as you do, and rephrase or explain.

I think I'll try to bear him in mind in future postings, as a potential imaginary sounding-board.

I have found counting to 10 is a valuable tool.
Being a good writer helps to get your point across without as many misunderstandings. I wish I wrote as well as you.

Wonderful you are a good listener, that explains a lot!
Kudos to you for adding a new sounding board and passing on the best of your unexpected experience.

It's a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to reading more of your posts around h2g2.
