fords - number 1 all over heaven

Hello there, and a big hoopy welcome to h2g2, the Earth edition of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! I'm fords, one of the Assistant Community Editors (ACE) and I'm your offical welcomer. So pull up a chair and sip on your Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster while I let you in on the weird and wonderful world of 'hootoo' smiley - bubbly

I see you've already changed your name from your Researcher number (your unique ID), but if you want to amend it in any way, simply click Preferences on the menu tab and invent away - but keep it clean! Now, your User Space is next - this is your 'home' on h2g2 where you get to tell people about yourself by either using plain text or Guide ML - the Guide's very own markup language.

Maybe I'm just lazy, but I hate bombarding people with too much information in one go so I have compiled a page of useful information at A811874 for you to peruse at your own leisure, which I hope you find to be of some use to you. But if you do have any more questions or queries, smiley - dontpanic - simply click Reply at the bottom of this message or click on my user name to leave a message on my Personal Space and I'll be more than happy to help smiley - biggrin

Above all, have fun - Share and Enjoy!

DivingHawkester

Hi Fords,
I've been looking at Hootoo a lot recently and thought it might be about time to start 'giving something back'. I've seen the ads for scouts and editors, but I'm not sure which would suit best. Is there a 'normal progression' where people usually try scouting before moving on to editing or vice versa?

Is there any other advice you can offer on what's involved

DH

Every job is as important as the next one to be honest, but personally I was a Scout before I was a Sub-Ed. The Sub's job is more demanding as you have to nit pick someone's entry and be prepared for people not liking any changes you may have made, etc, but it's still a lot of fun. So is Scouting - I've found many an entertaining entry whilst wandering through Peer Review! smiley - biggrin

You might want to have a look at the Scouts and <./>SubEditors</.> as well, which will tell you exactly what each one does in a bit more detail smiley - smiley
