Welcome to h2g2 – not just the friendliest on-line community but an incredibly huge, living, breathing guide to Life, the Universe and Everything. It’s compiled by researchers just like you and it's something YOU can take part in. You can write entries on all manner of subjects, and if it's something you think would look good in our Edited Guide (where all the best research goes), you can submit it to Peer Review Take a look at the <./>writing-guidelines</.> for more information on that.

I hope when you get to know us a little better you'll open your personal space and tell us a little about yourself - but there's no rush - and it's not compulsory

We ACEs are volunteers here to assist new researchers so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

I am sure that you will love this community as much as we do There's lots of things to see, clubs to join and people to meet - please don't be shy - just jump right in - this is a friendly place. But be careful - it can become quite addictive - believe me I know

Hello and thank you for your post.

I am rather new to all this and a little bit of a technophobe being over 50 and entering an unfamiliar world!!!

I will respond again but in the meantime could you answer a quick and probably daft question? If we want to contact a fellow user here, is this the appropriate place to leave personal details? I mean an email address only.... I know the answer is probably in the rules somewhere but I am notoriously dumb sometimes!!

Take your time getting to know this place - I suggest that you work your way through the New Resaerchers page - just click on the link in the message above or this one ---> <./>A719840</.> It really will help - I promise

If you wish to contact a fellow user simply go to their personal space and leave a message - do you know their user name?
I would advise against leaving any email address anywhere on the site - it encourages spammers etc. Remember that there are NO private conversations here - anyone can see anything that you write.

Thanks a lot. I was looking for a way to contact someone to give some confidential advice. I will delve into the pages and get started in ernest soon. So far I have enjoyed my limited forays into the messageboards.

Yes, people often forget that their conversations are visible to everyone

You could always set up a temporary account at Hotmail, Yahoo etc and then abandon it when you have finished with it.

If you do decide to post an emaill addy it's wise to disguise it to discourage phishing - like this h2g2DOTsupport@bbcDOTcoDOTuk
