Scene from novel
Posted Feb 15, 2005
Susa squealed in excitement and grabbed Melarussion in a fierce hug that made him smile. Trying not to laugh he waved his hands at her, halfheartedly shushing her yells of happiness as Arussa's far away voice came to them again.
"There are rat creatures about, so we must be quick. Ne- Veh- nahh says-" but here the equine voice was suddenly cut off.
"Yes? What does Nevena say?" Susa called worriedly. They stood close to eachother looking around as if they might suddenly see Arussa appear in the room with them, but the Meshtor's voice did not come again.
"What hath transpired?" Melarussion asked quietly. Susa clenched his shoulder almost painfully.
"He mentioned Kobolds! Maybe..." They looked at eachother. Melarussion opened his mouth to say something but stopped as a final message came to them, so faint he almost didn't hear it.
"We are discovered!" the voice said and then faded away altogether.
~~~~~~~~
Nevena and the Kobold screamed as the wave of darkness took them. The Dryad almost felt as though she had been swallowed up by a huge horrible monster. In desperation she grabbed at the guard in front of her and managed to grasp onto the end of his tail. They whirled together, spinning through the weightless blackness of a space without stars. Slowly, very slowly they came to a stop until they were no longer spinning but merely floating through what seemed like thick black water. A feeling of sleepiness gradually stole over Nevena, making her eyelids very heavy. She was just barely aware of the Kobold's hairy little hand feeling for her own. Without thinking, she took it and closed her eyes.
When she opened them again the blackness was gone. She was home back in her own tall pine tree and it was a beautiful spring day. "It was all just a dream!" she cried and laughed out loud. She heard a rustling next to her and knew it must be one of her sisters. "I have had the most frightening dream!" she said, turning to speak with her fellow Dryad. but instead of Lubiana's or Susa's face a Kobold looked back at her, his beedly little black eyes wide with surprise and fear. The poor little Gnome sat clinging to the branch they were on for dear life trying to look everywhere at once. His whiskers quivered as he emitted a small squeak and said,
"How did I get here?" He passed a clawed little hand before his eyes as though wondering if this were a dream and flinched as his steel helmet tumbled from his head to fall clanging down to the forest floor some thirty feet below them.
"I- I do not know!" Nevena said, very frightened now. What was happening? If this wasn't home, then where were they?
From the Gray Woods
Posted Sep 20, 2004
They stopped in front of the house gates and Tristan dismounted. He helped Elana to dismount, opened the gate and led Hazel through. "I'm putting her in the barn, Lana," he said tiredly and led the horse around to the back of the house. Elana stood by her front door, frightened to open it. Faintly she could hear her parents and Adwen arguing inside.
"You said in the morning we would go and look for them Marlin," she heard her mother say. "Well it's morning and I'm going with you to look!"
"No one needs to go look for them except me," Marlin answered. "Remember, there's only the one horse."
"Then take Adwen with you at least!" Ada said, her voice rising in frustration.
"Yes! Father I can help you!" Adwen said.
"No one needs to go into those woods except me!" Marlin thundered back. "Honestly, Ada, if you hadn't allowed Elana to go in the first place this wouldn't have happened!"
"Why are you so afraid of those woods Marlin? What could possibly be in them other than trees and animals?" Marlin stayed silent and Ada continued her tirade. "I merely told her she could explore them by day, I never said anything about going there in the middle of the night!"
"At least Tristan went with her," Adwen said calmly, trying to soothe his mother. "He won't let anything happen to her."
"No use staying out here Elana," Tristan's voice said by Elana's shoulder. She jumped and looked up at him in irritation. "By the sound of it we're in enough trouble," he said. Just then the door opened and their father glared out at them.
"Here they are Ada," he said, running a hand through his thick grey hair. His normally twinkling black eyes were half closed and red from lack of sleep and his tanned face was dark with anger. Elana wanted to hide her head in Tristan's shoulder but she just stood there with her mouth slightly open. Her mother pushed past him and ran forward enfolding her children in her arms. Out of the corner of her eye Elana saw Adwen standing behind his father shaking his head at their predicament.
"Tristan! Elana!" their mother scolded, holding them both at arm's length. "Whyever did you go into those woods in the middle of the night!? What were you thinking?" Elana wondered what to say. She glanced at Tristan and saw that he was thinking hard.
"I don't want to hear it!" Marlin yelled suddenly, making everyone jump. Adwen was looking over his father's shoulder curiously and Elana realized he was looking at the sword strapped around Tristan's waist. Then her father yelled again. "You children are never to go near those woods again, do you hear?" Gently he nudged Ada aside and pulled his children into the house by their arm. Ada followed and closed the door behind her.
Earth Elementals
Posted Sep 15, 2004
Gnomes are beings associated with the element of Earth. They possess a vibratory rate that makes them invisible to humans, but one that is still close enough to the lower physical vibration for them to interact with it. Their actions are reflected in the presence of mineral deposits, the erosion of rock, and the formation of crystals and other geological formations.
In ancient legends the Gnomes were protectors of secret treasures concealed in vast caverns beneath the earth. The old sages taught that the Gnomes were not naturally inclined to aid humankind, but if a person won their confidence and trust they would prove to be valuable allies. However, like all elementals, it was dangerous to deceive them or misuse their aid. Elementals work through the subjective nature of men and women, and can influence the human mind. Gnomes have the capability to bring about gloom, melancholy, and despair. Conversely, Gnomes can also bestow confidence, steadfastness, and endurance.
Gnomes are ruled by a king whose name is Gob. His followers came to be called Goblins as tales of them were told and retold over the centuries. They usually appear to humans as small, dwarf-like creatures.
Gnomes are the most substantial of the elementals. They dwell in holes, mines, and caverns. They are the most like us in personality, with all its good and bad points, but they are especially prey to all the weaknesses in human nature. They are called upon for help with money matters, stability, and growth.
Notes
Posted Sep 9, 2004
These are notes on the different creatures I want to include in my story:
Names for Fairies: Kobold, Nisse
The Norwegian "Nisse" and Trolls have been part of Norwegian traditions in hundreds of years. Nissen was a tiny fellow who lived in the barn and cared for the herd. If treated nicely, he took good care of horses and cattle. He was dressed in a knitted sweather, knee-long trousers, wooden shoes or boots - and, of course the knitted red cap. ; "Nisselua". (during World War 2 this kind of red "Nisse-cap" became such a symbol of Norwegian patriotisme, that it was prohibited to use them !)
It was very important to place a bowl of Christmas porridge in the barn. If forgotten, the Nisse could make a lot of trouble for the farmer the following year. But the old Norwegian Nisse didn't bring any gifts. Until the early years of last century he was the only "Nisse" known to Norwegians. But, influence from abroad has hit the local "Santa" If you ever should find yourself outdoors in Norway on Christmas Eve, you'll probably run into a lot of Santa/Nisse mixtures..............
Sylphs
Sylphs are beings associated with the element of Air. Their activity is reflected in the gathering of clouds, the formation of snowflakes, and the growth and maturity of all plant life. They are the spirits of the wind, and were the source of many Greek myths and legends. Among the Elementals as a whole, Sylphs are of the highest vibration and can thus traverse the dimensions more or less at will.
The Sylphs have a ruler whose name is Paralda. Though essentially creatures of the air, Sylphs reside on high mountain tops. Legend has it that they once spoke to human through caverns and were the voices of ancient oracles.
Sylphs are associated with the activity of the human mind. They can influence and inspire humans; often they are said to gather around the poet or artist in order to impart their inner visions of spiritual beauty. They usually appear to humans in the classic fairy image.
Sylphs are active, quick of movement and speech. They are clever and intelligent, but can be subtle in their persuasiveness. By nature, Sylphs are aloof and detached. They're called for help in creation or resolution of issues involving the intelligence and the mind, or products of intellect.
Posted Thu Sep 09, 2004 8:51 pm:
The sylphs are the air spirits. Their element has the highest vibratory rate of the four (beside earth, fire, water). They live hundreds of years, often reaching one thousand and never seeming to get old. They are said to live on the tops of mountains. The leader of the sylphs is a being called Paralda who is said to dwell on the highest mountain of Earth.
Sylphs often assume human form but only for short periods of time. The vary in size from being as large as a human to being much smaller. They are volatile and changeable. The winds are their particular vehicle. The work through the gases and ethers of the Earth and are kindly toward humans. They are usually seen with wings, looking like cherubs or fairies. Because of their connection to air, which is associated with the mental aspect, one of their functions is to help humans receive inspiration. The sylphs are drawn to those who use their minds, particularly those on creative arts.
Ideas
I need to make the elves in my fanfic into something else. I want to make Elana and her brothers be part something and their mother is half something- but what? I need to make up a name for what they are. Jenntully- females, Nettulli- males. I guess as a species they are the Tully.
okay, but what are they? Think.
