GCSEs? Forgive a non-abbreviated Dane, but I have no idea what you are talking about.
Sky still blue here. Lemme see what the forecasters have to say... (checking) Wonderful Wednesday, declining after that and somewhat heavily moist on Satyrday. Figures, good weather when work, bad weather when off work. Figures...
But that just cannot bother me truly right now. Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine...

GCSEs are the examinations that all 15/16 year olds have to take before either leaving school or going on to 6th Form college to take their A Level examinations after which at age 18, they hopefully go to into adult education (university) or employment.

Does that necessarily secure that they do reach adulthood? Or is it just a technical measurement?
Anyways, I do wish her luck. It is always nice to become adult, be it only on paper. (A bit like I am...)

LOL! I know what you mean as I find it very difficult to "act my age" at times and frequently receive disapproving looks from Mair. Especially when I'm prancing about the kitchen, waving kitchen implements about and dancing to pop music and even more so if I'm doing this when her friends are here!
One of the joys of parenthood is the ability to embarrass one's offspring...

Occasionally the boot is on the other foot and Mair has a turn at winding up her mother! My prudish 15 year-old daughter refers to the characters in "Sex in the City" as being old or middle-aged sluts! I've only ever watched the programme a couple of times and can't even remember much about it but it obviously left a poor impression on Mair! Crumbs! If those ladies are old, never mind the slut bit - a fat chance there as I'd kill to merely possess a sex drive, never mind the opportunity/energy to use it, then what the does that make me? I actually threatened to throw a remote control at Mair to make her shut up!

I felt old just the other day as one of my pupils asked me - sympathizingly - if I knew what an e-mail was?
I immediately snarled at him - how else to maintain (shards of) dignity?

Perhaps your pupil wasn't sure what an Email was and hoped that you would enlighten him?
One of my friends who lives near London asked me if we could perhaps text each other occasionally, as it's cheaper than phone calls. I had to confess that I have never sent a text message and didn't even know how to or whether my mobile, which is about four years old is capable of doing so!

Hey - mail me your phone number and I'll try to send you an sms?

Gwennie Posted May 26, 2003
Okay...
My phone is seldom switched on so I may not respond, that's if I can work out how to that is!

Ooooops... I completely forgot about this! It's exam-time in little old Denmark now. And I am th teacher, so there's lots to do here.
I'll look it up ASAP!

That's okay! This is the first time that I've been on h2g2 for a few weeks and it completely slipped my mind that I was supposed to send you an Email...
