Naughty? Moi?

It's bitterly cold, which is one of the reasons I try to discourage him. At 84, I think it's asking for trouble to scramble about and kneel on rocks, mud and worse. On the other hand, how many people do you know who stopped all activity and were dead inside a year? But I feel there must be a happy medium somewhere. Madame Acati (sp?) come back, all is forgiven.

I'm sorry to hear Christiane isn't well. She's had a bad time one way and another. I'll have a look as soon as I've finished this.

We found another four frogs in the ex-pond this morning; they seemed a lot livelier than their friends whom we rescued yesterday. Of course, my assistance was required (again), but as it was livestock, so to speak, I didn't object. However, I did make lunch very early and announced that we'd go to the supermarket to mop up what we'd forgotten on Monday. Of course, we spent more today than on Monday.....

Have you pinched all our goldfinches? We only see one or two these days.

No, I haven't pinched all your goldfinches. We are only getting one at the moment although we did have three a couple of weeks ago. We have never had as many since as we got the first year I saw them. I hope it means they have plenty of natural food still, and not that there is a decline in numbers. I haven't seem a mention anywhere.

I always spend more than intended if I go out in the week. I try to do one big shop, but I just cant carry it now, so it looks as if two trip will be necessary I used to love shopping but I hate it now, and can't wait to get it over with.

Shopping? It's the awful other people that ruin it

That's about right. Once upon a time you could go out in the middle of the week and the shops would be almost empty, and you could shop in peace, but now shopping appears to be the new religion and it is practised daily, nightly and on the Internet

The crowds in shopping centres show no sign of a 'credit crunch' unless they are still borrowing to fund Christmas!

And they bring their husbands and their children....if the husband is available to go shopping, why can't he be left at home to mind the brats?

The men just stand about with their trolleys across the aisle, and the kids scream for more sweets, and I'm the only ************* who hears them.

Does nobody have a shopping list these days?

I always left my husband behind with the kids. The arguments I witness between husband and wife (or partner), and with the brats drives me mad. Those who meet friends and persist in exchanging medical experiences and gossip while blocking the aisles ... I could go on!

Shopping list - I always take one, unless I leave it on the kitchen table

As for gardening, it is more feeding the wildlife and shovelling coal for which I use a stool! Several layers of gaudy clothing are essential too which makes me look a fright bit the birds don't care!

Is it a bit warmer today? Or have I a temperature? Yes, I know I /have/one, (like BP..'I've got blood pressure') but is it abnormal, like the rest of me? With a cold, I'm almost as difficult as a gentleman of my acquaintance; I see the Grim Reaper preparing to reap. I was reading at the Christingle service and my nose had been bleeding on and off for three hours, so gymnastically holding the Bible and leaning at an improbable angle, I managed not to bespatter the Book. I've foregone my morning aspirin until such time as the nose no longer requires sandblasting. Hope I don't have the stroke....
All that rubbish was inspired by the thought of you, my birdtender, in your 'several layers of gaudy clothing'. I do seriously think that, whisper, that particular snap may be past.
I hope it's warmer for Christiane. She didn't sound so good last time we spoke. Have you any idea how she is?

I am due to go to have a head scan and a neck ultra sound. on Chrismas eve. As the doctor said it was urgent I have no idea whether they they will either guillotine me or send me home.

getting old is not for sissies. One has to fight every inch of the way.

You'll know more when the results come, I suppose.

I think you're right about the extra layers. But you can't whip off a vest in Church, one mustn't frighten the choristers. This is why cardigans are better, but they have to match the rest. Wotta bind, isn't it. I have far too many clothes and nothing I want to wear.

Bigheaded? I don't think so.

I'm glad you keep so cheerful, it can't be easy.

As for operations, they're OK if the scars are a) accessible and b) hideous enough to impress the bystander.
For eaxmple, a knee replacement, though markedly less of a joy-ride than a hippie, is decidely preferable because stockings are more tastefully descended (and I use the verb transitively!) than knickers.

With that disturbing thought I'll bid you goodnight.

My goodness Dig,

I have visions of my stripping to the waist!!. Horrid awful thought.

Massive central scar for the open heart - apparently they use a sort of round drill which saws through the breast bone/sternum!
Then a massive one on my left side which they had to remove a rib as well as the left lower lobe of my lung in order to remove this gigantic tumour/ all in the Medical Museum the University of Cape Town Medical School. I should charge them for exhibiting it. !!

so I keep ine discreetly covered.

My poor daughter in Australia has the most dreadful scars from her double knee replacements. Added to which wshe can hardly walk now.

Where are you spending your christmas? Are you entertaining the young or are you off to the shed to hibernate?
My young are being quite splendid. they are rallying round and all going to come to my home town to spend christmas with me.. I am deeply touched by this gesture. Really loving and wonderful. Poor K. is very upset. He is going to be bearing the brunt of what is happening. so am desperately trying to make him even more independent.

You must have gone through what amounts to butchery!! Aren't you glad not to be grilled and served with salad?

Your daughter's knee reminds me how lucky I've been with my three hips. My only problem, if such it can be called, is a disparity in length as the surgeon 'didn't want to poke about in the pelvis too much' when he did the revision; when I think about it, which isn't often, I'm quite glad he didn't, but the rolling gait does me no favours.

Our progeny are widely scattered over the UK, for which the UK is probably profoundly grateful, so we only meet with a full complement when Something Signiicant is afoot. The nearest pod spent last weekend with us, so Christmas, for us, is virtually over. We shall be 'Im an' Me now till New Year, which we shall spend at the Shed. Good job I like him!!!

Very dear SD.

Just caught up with you.

We have had my lovely Mechanical engineer gramddaighter come to spend Christmas with us, plus my eldest son and his wife and two sons. So with \k. as well we had a lovely time.
Now the parting of the ways occurs, and the next meeting will be I know not when.

We had a very happy christmas,tried to think positively about things, but there is a generous of m'em foutisme about things now which is very welcome to me. !!
(That word is generally not used in polite French!!)

Today we had a lovely drive to Dover. It was the most beautiful day and the sea was splendid. We tried to visit Dover Castle, bu t it was closed. anyway, had a good lucnh and then a successful shop for K. and granddaughter. C/ Then they produced the jost magnificent jazz session for about two hours, dancing and singing. they both have lovely voices and it was such fun.

with good wishes to the two of you for your New Year at the shed.
