Thanks, there are a few other people on the guide who are mechanically inclined, you just have to keep an eye out to find them.

good article on hotrodding, being a self described racer I have rather dim view of the "trailer queens" with the exception
of rare, old overly beautiful cars I mean I can see a type 35b Bugatti
being a trailer queen but not some of the late model stuff thats over done just for show, but even Jay Leno drives his cars

Thanks for reading the article. I can't say that I personally have a dim view of trailer queens, I just really don't understand them. I'd rather have a good beater than a nice car I can't drive. I currently own three cars, one of which runs (my Camaro). The second car runs if push-started, but I have some finishing to do before it gets back on the road (RX-7). My third car is just for parts (RX-7). If you have a chance you might check out POS Theory, it's a method of rating a vehicle's condition. I submitted it a while back but they said the language was too strong. It's edited now, but I never re-submitted.

cool POS theory been there owned a bunch of those still have parts from assorted POS's in my garage,
btw doesn't a blown side seal just give you an excuse to do a teardown, fresh apex seals and a little mild bridge-porting while you are that far into it?

Actually, it's been a while since I wrote that. I bought an '85 RX-7 for parts and swapped the motor into my '83. It'll be back on the road soon.

I can't remember is the 83 a first generation body?

'79-'85 is the first gen, '86-'92 is second gen, '93-'95 is the third gen.

So your 85 parts car could also yield later and possibly larger brakes and possibly a stronger rear axle, a buddy of mine had about
375hp in his first gen and seemed to eat rear ends a lot topped of by the fact that he suffered from invincible 20 year old syndrome (I used to have the same problem)made for a real scary ride, he was great fun to watch at tight auto-x's, we would hold a pool for which corners he would spin at

My '83 has a better rear-end, it's limited slip with discs. The '85 has an open diff with drums. The '84-'85 GSL-SEs had the beefier LSD rear-ends and discs. I'm not currently planning on more than 200hp, if I were I'd look into having a Ford 9" rear-end built for it (cheaper than you think). Hopefully I'll get the RX-7 ready for the road tomorrow, just have to swap intakes and put some ATF down the carb.
