Hello Granny:

Just found your post. After further reading (this is my first time through with Kant) I discover that while K had a chokingly Pietistic upbringing and education he became rather atypical of the breed as he aged. I doubt that he could characterologically embrace atheism though he seems quite willing hold the existence of god and the divinity of christ at least at an arms length. Moreover the business about finite rational beings other than man....from Kuehn's biography I learn that an early published piece of K's postulates a rather modern view of the formation of planets/solar system and there are indications that K would be comfortable with the possibilty of other earth like planets or at least other rational beings living galactically elsewhere.

It is my aim to complete a reading of both the Prolegomena and the CPR on my own so that I might see for myself what others claim he accomplished.

However I find that my lexicon of 20th century definitions in no way jibe with his to an exasperating degree. A priori and intuition in the sense he uses the terms seems to stretch things quite out of shape. With a priori intuitions I'm about to assume he simply means belief in the usual christian sense. Oh well, back to the reading.
