Hi, I see you are new to h2g2. Welcome. So you do some sort of needlework? My Mom used to make quilts. I don't sew, but I do artwork, and I like to look at quilts.

Hello,J Ellen, I make quilts. There's a lot of us about.Am doing a Design for Craft City and Guilds course at the local college at the moment. We spend year doing artwork & design and the second year, making what we design.Spent today layering stitched cotton (backed with wadding) with sheers(organza) and burning back the organza, with a hot gun .It was interesting,if a little smelly.I really enjoy stitching wholecloth quilts with Welsh designs ,but they are very labour - intensive.(on the plus side, they can last for a few hundred years-immortality!)
If you're keen on art,try going to a quilt show near you sometime- there's a lot of artquilts (made for the wall, rather than the bed).Or look at websites of Caryl bryer fallert or David Walker, or Liz Berg, for inspiration. Tell your Mum "quilters do it in the ditch" - she'll know what I mean.
Thank you very much for the warm welcome!
