Wildman - I'm not really mad, I've just been in a very bad mood for 40 years!

Hi! I'm the Sub-editor dealing with your Entry 'Indian dance' and the copy I'm working on is at A2982378

If you have a check on what I've done, you'll see that I haven't really changed your wording - but I have definately changed the layout of the Entrysmiley - erm. I would like to get your opinion of what I've done, it can be changed back if you really prefer it (and if you can persuade me that I shouldsmiley - winkeye) - but I really think that the article flows in a smoother manner this way.

Don't be afraid to tell me if you think that I've made a mess of your brainchild - I don't take offensesmiley - cheers.

Hi there,
I like what you've done. There's just a couple of small things:

The sentence, "Wherever in the world there is an Indian community, there is bound to be Indian dance, taught and trained formally or learned informally at community gatherings," doesn't really belong with "Classical dance" (there's not really any way in which classical dance is learned informally) - it should probably go up with "Dance training", following the description of dance teaching in the UK.

I like the way you've divided Classical dance and Folk dance with subsets; but Bollywood doesn't really belong with either. It's neither a traditional folk dance nor a classical style, althogh some of the filmi dance routines might contain elemenets of either. As with all other things reated to Bollywood, Bolly dance is a category unto itself!

Other than that, looksgood to me!

Good points! That's why feedback like this helps so muchsmiley - biggrin.

On the first point - I've brought together two different bits and moved them under 'dance training' as you suggested. What do you think? (Incidently, I changed the full title for ISTD to what it said on the link I found, I take it this is the same organisation as you meant?).

On the second point, I've changed the subheading from 'Folk dance' to 'Modern dance', I'll have to think about the wording of the following para a bit more, but the idea is to emphasise that Indian dance is not just the highly-formal style that some may think but is a living thing (and that Bhangra-pop and Bollywood may become the 'folk' dances of the futuresmiley - laugh). I'd appreciate your thoughtssmiley - ok.

I think that actually works, although I'm slightly wary of the fact that "Modern Dance" has its own connotation within dance (but, I can't think of another term other than the messy-sounding "Non-Classical Dance"). Unless you can think of anything better, that'll do fine.

Yes, that's the very same ISTD!

I see what you mean, hmmmm...

I've changed the headings to 'Classical Indian dance' and 'Contemporary Indian dance' - I think that should read a bit better?

The italics have been getting on to us subs to get entries back quickly, as they're getting short of entries in the queue for the front page - so hopefully this one should appear there in the not-too-distant future.smiley - magic
