Problem?

Is it just because I don't like little boys books?
Problem?
Weaver Posted Aug 6, 2004
Not at all. I'm sure you're the proud owner of the entire Harry Potter collection. I don't really know why the things you post wind me up - they just do. I wish I could figure out some way of taking something positive from it.

The problem we have here Weaver is that you seem to take these things personally, you shouldn't.
I received an e-mail from someone this morning blaming me for the destruction of that thread and giving me various reasons why I'm a tosser etc.
The post was to him, not you.
Sorry if my high handed manner upsets you, I don't mean any harm by it.
Rodmurray.

Maybe we did get off on the wrong foot.
I'm overly defensive about a genre, which like any other genre, has its fair share of stinkers. I seriously believe if you read either of the books I mentioned, you may wish to revise your opinion, even if only just a little.
I can't possibly see how you could be instrumental in destroying the thread you mentioned - it was already careering downhill before you ever even got there.
Despite what you think, I appreciate your candour, even if I don't always agree with it. And if I think you're wrong, I'll say so, as I'm sure the opposite is true.
This website needs people who can say what has to be said, rather than what everyone wants to hear, you pompous, self righteous windbag!

Bravo! Thats the spirit.
The author you mentioned is a very strange one.
Ian M Banks, as opposed to his writing as Ian Banks.
I have read numerous Ian Banks novels, the most intriguing of which was "The Wasp Factory". He at least does credit to your artform.
But he still feels the need to change his name when writing sci-fi.
This does tell a story.
There's really only one thing for it, you'll ave to write a sci-fi novel that has literary merit!
Then you can come on here and slaughter me till your hearts content.
And I'll accept it with good grace.
Cheers, ya fantasy freakoid!
Rod.

I think if you enjoyed Banks, you would enjoy M Banks too, but you're right, the 'pseudonym' does tell a story. The market is biases, for a variety of reasons. I wonder whether it was banks' idea or his publisher?
If I thought I was in any way good enough, I'd write that literay SF masterpiece. It might happen one day, who knows, but by then I'll be too busy bathing in the glory to worry about 'flaming' people!
Cheers, you overblown literary elitist
DreamWeaver (I think Macromedia have that one covered!)

I see we have been moderated on the anthology thread.
Deary me.
Cheers, You grubby little sci-fi oik,
Rod.
Ps, It was Banks idea to use the M in his sci-fi work, apparently so people would know it was a sci-fi rather than "straight" work of fiction.

Sorry, just noticed your message in my box.
I think it may have been Caite, trying to calm things down a bit.
Cheers,

I'd like to think that as adults (despite reading preferences) we could manage that ourselves.
Glad you quit with the name calling first, I was running out of ideas.

Now I've run out of ideas.

In matey, your aversion to fiction with a scientific leaning notwithstanding.
Problem?
RodmurrayHFC Posted Aug 6, 2004
This challenge is open to any type of writing.
I look forward to seeing your work.
If you want to tell any of your pals on-site about it I'd be grateful, the bigger the list the better standard of work we're likely to get.
Cheers,
Rod.

Weaver Posted Aug 6, 2004
Is the challenge to create new works especially, or are we allowed to submit old ones?
Problem?
RodmurrayHFC Posted Aug 6, 2004
Any works, but they can't be submitted before the fifth of Sept.
One person, one nomination, their own work only.
Cheers,
Rod.
