h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hello my name is Peter Raugland and I write this message for two reasons. First of all, I must thank you for all the inspiration you created in me with your Overland Challenge. I stumbled upon it during my preparations for my own expedition to the Bering straight, though I did not reach it because of the cars limitations. It did however drive through the Road of Bones to Magadan in the same conditions as your expedition faced.

However, the second reason I am contacting you for is that I am preparing my second expedition. I am still going to operate in Russia, but with a different approach. But this time around it will require something more regarding financials. And consequently I need to raise some equity through preferably sponsorships. But I am also looking at other opportunities, such as making a documentary/documentary series on the topic which I am going to investigate with this expedition, book deals, speeches, etc. And therfor I think the question I most of all want to ask you is this: How did you pitch this idea to Ford, and what sort of strategy / tactics did you use for convincing them to suport your expedition?

Initialy I wanted to ask Ford why they agreed on suporting you, but then again I dont know who you talked with. Maybe you know how they decided to suport you? The reason I am asking this is because I need an attack angle, and I am rather perplexed about how to go about and explain how they are going to get a return on their assets, even though it stands perfectly clear for me. What was your strategy at this point? And where did you put your emphasis on your persuation?

I realize it all comes down to my credibility and my personal brand equity, which in this context should be rather good. But how do you present something insanly, outrageously crazy in a serious way? How did you work around this problem?
