Hello there, and welcome to h2g2! I'm fords, one of the Assistant Community Editors (ACE) and I'm your offical welcomer. smiley - smiley

Now, there are many weird and wonderful things to see and do on h2g2, but instead of bombarding you with information I have compiled a useful guide at A811874 which will help you to get acquainted with the site, make your Personal Space all pretty and introduce you to the wonderful world of the h2g2 smiley and GuideML - the Guide's very own markup language which comes in very useful for writing Guide entries and creating a great Personal Space smiley - biggrin

Any questions? smiley - dontpanic - simply reply to this message and I'll be more than happy to help smiley - biggrin

Barry (ask me about the Disneyland Resort)

Thanks for the introduction, fords. I found out about h2g2 from _The Salmon of Doubt_ which my wife gave me for our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.

I look forward to spending some time perusing the guide and possibly sticking around and eventually contributing to it. I am currently the West Coast correspondent for http://allearsnet.com and I hope to use the site to improve my writing (see http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/dca/tot_pre.htm for a sample of my first column).

Sounds good smiley - biggrin You don't necessarily have to write loads of entries for the Guide (although it'd be rude not to!) as it's just as fun to hang out in the many forums, clubs, etc we have smiley - biggrin

Is the Salmon of Doubt the first DNA book you've read then?

Barry (ask me about the Disneyland Resort)

Not by a long shot. I first became interested in DNA when the series was first on television in the U.S. I have most of his books, the vinyl two record H2G2 album and my wife just got me the two disc H2G2 DVD set (I got her the complete Avengers DVD set for her last birthday).

Once I get to know the community I will likely begin writing for it (assuming H2G2 holds my interest in the way I anticipate). I was enheartened to see there were no edited Disneyland entries as that is likely something I may try writing about.

Where do you reside?

Sunny San Diego, California where we are in the middle of June Gloom (the sun doesn't peek out from behind the clouds until afternoon) and only an hour from the Disneyland Resortsmiley - magic, where I spent part of my 25th wedding anniversary on the new Tower of Terrorsmiley - biggrin: http://members.cox.net/no.spam.please/anniversary.jpg (I'm the one with the beard).

I might go one day for a laugh, but it's not that high on my list - not when there's Alton Towers and Air - the bestest rollercoaster ever! smiley - biggrin

Disneyland is defintitely not the place to go for thrill rides (although the coaster at California Adventure is pretty good and not a head-banger).

And there are loads of kids there, so I don't think I'd bother unless I was taking my own smiley - erm

Barry (ask me about the Disneyland Resort)

Agreed. As adults without children we try and go during the week when school is in session (we have an annual pass). However, what is worse than obnoxious kids are clueless parents (the one who drive strollers eemingly with their eyes closed are the worst).

I'm guessing a stroller is a buggy - but I know what you mean. People who get in your way smiley - grr

A stroller is a pram (perambultor?) and it's worse at Dinseyland they tend to run into you and over your sandal-wearing feet. smiley - wah

I guess we *are* two countries separated by a common lanuage.
