fords - number 1 all over heaven

Hello there, and welcome to h2g2! I'm fords, one of the Assistant Community Editors (ACE) and I'm your offical welcomer. smiley - smiley

Now, there are many weird and wonderful things to see and do on h2g2, but instead of bombarding you with information I have compiled a useful guide at A811874 which will help you to get acquainted with the site, make your Personal Space all pretty and introduce you to the wonderful world of the h2g2 smiley and GuideML - the Guide's very own markup language which comes in very useful for writing Guide entries and creating a great Personal Space smiley - biggrin

Any questions? smiley - dontpanic - simply reply to this message and I'll be more than happy to help smiley - biggrin

Ooh, one last thing - Goldfrapp fan? smiley - biggrin

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome. I am a Golfrapp fan, well-spotted! It was either that or WonderfulElectric.

I've just got my computer back from a servicing, so I haven't really had a chance to look around yet. It's all very friendly, though.

Get the free download from Lavasoft, 'Ad-Aware 6'. You'll be surprised and horrified by what it finds on your computer! I found 500 tracking cookies and data miner the first time I used it.

I've got that, and I have Spy Sweeper too and my virus checker is up to date, as is my firewall. But when I go into Task Manager, there are about 6 svchost thingies running, which I'm suspicious of smiley - erm

OOh yes, get rid of the unwanted running processes. Find somewhere that services computers.

I take mine to HallsNet, my university's ISP people. We have this incredibly fast ethernet connection that is 100 times faster than Broadband.

Aw, poor Luthiena! smiley - hug

My mate was telling me there is a list on the Microsoft site or some such place that tells you what you should and shouldn't have running in your Task Manager so I'll give that a go. I still think Blaster's in my PC somewhere, but no matter how many checks I do with my anti-virus software nothing is ever found. One day I tried closing down a couple of the svchost things to see what would happen and on one of them the NT/Authority thing came up (as it did with Blaster) smiley - erm

I don't have to do anything particularly technical, the upshot of that is that I don't understand the techy bits. I just take it in to be serviced!

Were are you two from then?
