NaNoWriMo Day One - Every Sha La La La
Posted Nov 1, 2004
Yep, it's day one of NaNoWriMo and so far I've written ... zilch. I'm really just checking in. I've got shopping to do this morning (zzzz), so it will be this afternoon before I can put pen to paper, or keyboard to screen. I could write a few words now, I suppose, but then I'd have to leave it, and then instead of concentrating on how many fish fingers we need, I'll be thinking of writing.
So there it is. Day One of NaNo and I'm finding excuses not to write already...
I will say that my NaNo attempt this year is called Every Sha La La La (http://sallyquilford.tripod.com/everyshalalala), and will be a futuristic mythology, with shades of Chaucer and the Arthurian legend. My characters are travelling from Derbyshire to London in a post-apocalyptic Britain, and on their travels they will tell each other modern fairy tales and meet other adventures, especially thwarted by the sinister Dragon Riders. I've tried to imagine what sort of myths will be in circulation a thousand years from now, so I've been scouring urban legend sites, and intend to adapt them to suit. All the stories will have the titles of songs (hence the title).

Big Brother Five

Is anyone watching BB5? Isn't it riveting? I've never seen such an unpleasant group of people in my life and yet I'm hooked, especially after this week's fight. I have to admit that after thinking that Dan was an arrogant git at first, I've quite warmed to him now.
Does anyone else think that Emma and Victor should be thrown out? Nah, nor me really, though I think they're the biggest trouble makers. I'd just rather neither of them won.

This is different
Posted Jun 19, 2004
Mmm, I like this. A chance to write a daily journal. Not that I've ever kept up any of my other online journals.
What's happening at the moment? Well most of it is in my profile. I've just got 2nd place in the Derbyshire Literature Festival 1-2-1 competition, where I had to write a letter to Miss Havisham of Great Expectations fame. I go up to County Offices at Matlock this week to collect my prize and read out my letter. I hope people laugh!
I'm also busy with a Creative Writing course with the OU. I got a good mark for my first assignment so at least I know I'm not kidding myself, even if other people think I am
I don't spend a lot of time talking about writing. I tend to just get on with it. I get more done that way.
