hI bOB,
hAVEN'T GOT BEYOND THE 1ST PARA YET, BUT i'VE NOTICED THIS: for shouting)
Title says VIII Legion (i.e. 8th!), whereas on the 1st line you say it was the 9th Legion - which I know it to be, but give Roman numerals VIIII. (it should be IX)
I'll go back to reading it now .

PS I recall reading 'The Eagle of the IXth' when I was a kid. Can't recall the auhor off-hand except that I know he's famous for his historical novels. Was it Henry Treece?
I remember in art we had tto make a drawing entitled 'Eagles', so mine was the Standard Bearer for the IXth Legion. I was commended for my imagination. First and only time this ever happened to me in 'Art'

I've skimmed it quickly, Bob. It is interesting and well-structured and apart from that already mentioned, I can't see any obvious gaffes .
Somnetimes you mention 'Ninth' in words and at others you use the (incorrect) Roman numerals. If I was you I'd standardise on the Roman numeral (IXth)
with this. I may give it a proper read later.

Roman numerals VIIII. (it should be IX) well yes.
But they called themselves VIIII so I decided to go with the original, this tile photo took some finding but it interesting

Bob, fair 'nuff. But I would make a comment to this effect, perhaps as a footnote
. (Maybe it was a deliberate idiosyncracy onm the behalf of the 9th Legion
)

Ps; I wrote this to try and popularise H2G2 people interested in the film might want to know more. The title might need a change to catch searches suggestions please.
I hope there is not too much wrong with it I had the idea 3 to 4 days ago and started from scratch.
