Coming up roses!

Just wanted to drop in and say 'Hello' after coming across you in the next word game - we seem to be on a similar wavelength. I liked the Donna/Mobile smiley - laugh

Gardening is my great passion. I've planted a few roses recently - which seem to be doing well despite me not knowing too much about them. I have a Rambling Rector growing through my apple tree and it's been wonderful this year. The scent in the early morning, once the sun's had a chance to warm things up, is wonderful. Paul's Himalayan Musk is also doing well, finding its way into another fruit tree.

I hope things go well for your babysitting marathon!

Good Evening! *waves

How are things with you? I had a wee lurk round your space and sympathise re the sleepless night. At least we have Hootoo to while away the dark hours.

Had a sleepless night myself last night - due to a teenage son playing silly bu**ers.

Didn't manage much in the garden yesterday - we got the tail end of the storm that hit you. Today has been lovely - until late afternoon when we had heavy rain with thunder and lightning. Spent some time finding homes for some marigolds and a cleome - and a tidy up of the messy corner. I'm running out of room for all the plants I keep acquiring. For some women it's shoes, handbags, clothes etc - for me it's plantssmiley - laugh

I know the teenage son thing only too well. One of my boys was a dam nuisance from the age of 13 until he left home. However he has turned into a fine young man as I am sure your son will...eventuallysmiley - biggrin
We are quite alike as far as plants are concerned also. I too buy plants , get them home and then wonder where I am going to put them.
Would you by any chance know the latin name of your rose Paul's Musk? I have tried to get one and the garden centre think if I can get the latin name they will be able to find it for me.
I have managed to clear up most of the debris from the storm and the place looks quite good again
smiley - cheers

Posting in haste - as I really should be in the shower before going off to wo*k..........here's what I've found so far..

'Paul's Himalayan Musk' - a Rambling Rose - the one I got came from David Austin's rose nursery - they've a very good web-site - davidaustinroses.com

It's quite an old rose - probably late 19th century. Parentage unknown.
Perhaps nearer to Rosa multiflora or even R sempervirens than its name suggests. Their words, not mine smiley - biggrin

Will do some more checking later.

T

Ps - it's reassuring to know that troublesome boys usually turn out fine smiley - cheers

Evenin' Kif

Missed your last post on here - on account of being away on hols for two weeks and coming back to find myself swamped.

Six roses from David Austin smiley - yikes - I should be asking them for commission smiley - laugh

The garden was rather overgrown when we returned from Portugal - but is looking somewhat better now that the grass has been cut. Lots of veg now ready for harvesting - I've just eaten our first runner beans - can't beat really fresh veg.

Sorry to learn from your journal that Mrs K isn't too well. I hope the medics get her sorted PDQ and that the pain resolves. Constant pain is so debilitating. It sounds as if she has a very good outlook on life despite the health problems.

Enjoy your weekend
T

Hi T ( I think there's a joke in there somewhere!)
it's great to know I am on someone's friends list, when you get to my age most of your friends are dead!smiley - wah.
I guess you are well recovered from your Portugese holiday now and back to w**king hard.
I only grow flowers and stuff now. A few years a go I had a small croft in a sheltered valley near my home and grew all sorts of veggies. my two boys use to help me till the stuff and we sold what was surplus. In this part of Cornwall most things mature a few weeks earlier than further up country and we enjoyed things while others were just dreaming about them. My very favourite veg is runner beans and I can eat a plate full when they are new with butter and black pepper . Lovely. The Boss is a bit better just now thanks but it does seem she has to go back for another opsmiley - cry however we will face that when we come to it.
How is the stroppy son? . If it is any consolation my son has a daughter just going into her teens and she is causing him problems bigtime, apparently she is the only twelve year old in the world who is not allowed to stay out all night on the beach with her friends!
When you are a Grandpa you will have the same pleasure of watching your lad struggle with kidssmiley - evilgrin
great to hear from you smiley - cheers
Kif
