h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

After a week of horrible foggy wet weather Sunday dawned bright and sunny so after lunch we decided to go for a drive up the North coast, stop and have a little sit well wrapped up to make sure the sea was behaving, which it was, just lying around looking blue and beautiful. Across country to Helston, a quick look at Loo Bar then through Porthleven, along the coast road to Marazion out through Newlyn and home. Lovely, a nice quiet day before starting this weeks work. The carpets are coming next Monday so we have been boxing things up and generally getting things ready for the painter coming Thursday to paint before the carpets go down. All quite straight forward except.... Yesterday 'phone goes early in the morning. Can we have Y.G.Sfor the day he is poorly. Of course we could but it meant no work being done until mother colected him after school. This morning, early 'phone call, can we have YGS AND YGD, yes we can but it means getting even less preparatory work done. This afternoon 'phone goes again. it is the school they are sending EGD home to us as she is poorly. We now have three coughing spluttering snotty children and a floor covered with dirty tissues
The Son's wife is not happy because The Son has to go to Spain on business next month. The son is not happy because she is not happy. We are not very happy because we have to feed the kids, clear up their tissues,and can't get on with out work.
We quite expect the EGS to go down with the bug tomorrow and we will be asked to have him. We can't take them out to entertain them and although so far they have been very quiet we still wish they were not here this week Much as we them we prefer to see them when they are able to go out to play!!

Just stopped by for a quick look and saw this posting.

Never rains but what it pours Mate, ain't it just the case, if I was 400 miles nearer I would come and help. (Blokey)

Obviously D.I.L. works but couldn't something be arranged for a few days, especially if you are having the painters in, I suspect that is the last thing that kids with a Resp: Virus need.

Unfortunateley it seems to be the modern way, both parents working full time to make a reasonable standard of living, that's ok 'till the wheel comes off, like now.

Is this what Government calls a 'return to Old Fashioned Standards'.
