Hi Sole, I can see your having some difficulties why can't you log into your old name?

I too am having a few problems, my computer has all but given up the ghost and it now logs me out every few mins (it very kindly tells me though) I get a minute to shut everything down.

Please do laugh long & hard at my predicament. I'm not going to blame yesterday's visitors (I'd like to of course) BUT today, on reaching the h2g2 Front Page, I noticed that the format was not the usual one (lots of green and black, and a little confusing) and I was asked to to re-register...and I did, didn't I...and I'm sorry now, arn't I...
The point is, that I can't get back to my original space...I want to go home .
I've been trying to catch an ace's attention, without success so far.
(It is frustrating not being able to reach anyone prepared to admit to being a member of the administration.)
I'm going to bed very soon, and since I'm not in condition to refresh
the game threads, I'd be happy for mine to be posted over - I can supply the answers later...I hope!

You seem to be on the wrong skin, if you don't recognise it, but that is obviously not what your problem is, there are other aces who don't actually have ACE next to their name, if I can I will find you a link to all of them, if this computer will let me because i've been out for some considerable time an now doubt you will be off to bed soon anyway but if I can get it it may help for tomorrow. Mort is not an ACE any more she gave up her duties a while back.

Believe me I know how frustrating it can be, I well remember single sign on (I was on digibox then) and was out for days on end before they manged to getr new links for us. I think my current problem is a virus, but will need the computer guy to sort that one out it is way beyond my knowledge.

The obvious things are a complete shut down of your computer, also have you tried just dialing h2g2 into your search engine? I found my name very easily that way the first time I logged on.

Hi Sam, you're not online at the moment, but I want to thank you for your kind help. Just before switching off last night (& too tired to do anything about it) I noticed that the h2g2 system appeared to have linked the 2 elves through the e-mail address, and that I was back in my own pad, albeit wearing a foreign skin. As you can see, I've been booted out again....I reckon it's the mother-in-law, but it could just be a virus or a worm. Do you think we've caught the same bug? I wonder if you know if any other h2g2 folk are in the same boat?
I do want to get this sorted out a.s.a.p. as, apart from anything else, this skin is darned itchy!
Back in a few hours....I hope.
p.s. I don't know about Mort's status, but she certainly came to my assistance very quickly last night.

Hi Sole, it does seem odd that the two have linked because of the same e-mail addy, all of my names have the same one and so far i've not had any bother. If you go to preferences you can change the skin, however, if you are on plain (which I am)you need to go a different route so if the one you use is not there let me know. You can also click on to SEF's page, she has all the skins on her PS and you just need to click on the one you are familiar with.

Our problems do seem to have started at the same time, so you may be right in thinking we has the same virus, I do know that in the past some of the anagram sites had been infected with viruses so I was very wary to download them but I guess I got braver! I also seem to have a bit of bother with h2g2 but I think there are a few other suffering too, Lugworm was saying it sometimes takes him 15 mins to post i've not been that bad but it's definitely not the same as it was before.

Hi Sam! It looks as if I've squashed my worm...how about yours?
BBC World Service News (& news & news & news etc) directed me to their web page which explains, fairly clearly, how to protect against and destroy the Sasser worm. The download took about 15 mins.
So, I just have to get back to being Researcher 229466 and all will be well. I can't deny, though, that I'm enjoying the break...it feels
like I'm playing hookey!

Well mine is worse than ever, i've done all the virus checks but it shows nothing, I honestly don't know if thats good or bad glad you've at least got something sorted out. I can't say i'm enjoying the break because my computer keep shutting down and reminding me that all is not well. I'm off to bed now as I have a headache and I seem to have had it for days

Hi Sam, I'm back!! And, looking on the bright side, I expect you're not online because your computer is taking its medicine. I wonder if you tried downloading the patch.
Anyway, I'm home and I have this site too...I just looked at the Who's Online board and...you guessed it...Gordon's worst nightmare...

Once the Sasser worm had been despatched, I followed Mort's advice and contacted h2g2 Support by e-mail... [email protected]
Their response was rapid, friendly and effective.
No need to reply (at least not to this address) but do call in at my place,when you can, to let me know how you're getting on. I do not intend to operate from 2 sites as I'm the one most likely to be confused.
I feel terribly lazy...perhaps it's la primavera...time to think of other things.
