Just have a quck look at my version of your authors letter.
Being a complete fool do u have a quick way of obtaining e mail addresses or is it searching the web
I thought I would go through the competitions
and send a copy to all the organisers
eg Arfon Foundation
Poets Society
PNF etc
So will slighly alter the letter as to whether organisation or individual prob take out personal bits

There are a few wee typos.
(I must have forget to re-post the corrected letter, many apologies).
Here goes:
"I am writing to ask whether your organisation, as an established and successful purveyor of literature..."
Need 'comma' after 'organisation'.
*"...after the BBC announced plans, just before Christmas, that they will be shutting it down..."
Insert 'that' before 'they'.
*"As a sufferer from Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease, I can..."
'Comma' after 'Disease'.
*"...the Parkinson’s Disease Society, the publication of a Poetry Diary and a Poetry Address Book sold in aid of the PDS. This year I wrote and read my own poem at St Edmondsbury Cathedral at the PDS Eastern Region Carol Concert, which was met with enthusiastic applause from all those present, a congregation in excess of 500."
Insert 'comma' after 'Society' and 'fullstop' after 'PDS'. I would also delete 'and culminating ' and start with next sentence 'This year...' (see above for suggestion).
Also you have used the letter 'o' rather than the numeral '0'.
*Fourth to last paragraph 'eWe do', delete the 'e'.
*"...or provide us with any other helpful contacts who may be of assistance".
Insert 'of' after 'be'.
*************
Chris,
I understand that a lot of these typos are probably from the original 'Author's letter' so, apologies for that. Hope this helps otherwise.
If it would be easier for me to correct this myself and then post to you, I will do so, no problem.
Also the original web page links will need to be inserted also into the letter. I will correct them on the letter that is currently up for the 'Authors'.
Are you sourcing email addresses for these poetry organisations, or do you have them already?
I have sent some emails to poets and do not want us to duplicate.
Let me know what you'd like me to do to assist.
Thanks,
Jen

if you correct the letter and re post thats great
my idea is go through the competition threads and e mail to each of the organisations then look at individual poets
I would be keen to know if these organisations are awareof the GW changes and wheher they support them
ok ???

Dear XXXXX
A Unique International Resource for Established and Potential Poets and Writers in all Areas of Literature is being closed:
The BBC’s Get Writing Web Site
I am writing to ask whether your organisation, as an established and successful purveyor of literature, would be willing to help support our campaign to keep the BBC website 'Get Writing' open.
I belong to this on-line community of writers, currently fighting for survival, after the BBC announced plans, just before Christmas, that they will be shutting it down, on or before 31st March 2005. The reasons we have been given are that they wish to appeal more to the under 25 age group more than those older and most likely to be using and gaining from their resources.
'Get Writing' is a place where I have met writers of all abilities; from the experienced to the novice and where I have been able to write, read and review poetry, short stories, non-fiction and script writing. The site provides mini-courses, advice and support, discussion forums, competitions and has an ever-growing network of writers from all over the world.
I have been able to develop and enhance my writing skills, receive and give feedback and it has increased my confidence beyond belief. I have also met some of the most wonderful people there and wish for this to continue. It is the only place that I have experienced such passion, energy and dedication to the craft. It is an invaluable and essential reference tool to so many, especially those that may be house bound and have no other access to such a creative network.
(You may view all these unique features yourself by
visiting http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/getwriting/)
As a sufferer from Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease, I can only hint at the impact this resource has made on my life. It is only through the support and encouragement of my fellow Get Writing contributors and the environment created by the BBC editors and staff, that I have been able to even think about my current range of activities, which now include readings and discussion of my work to Branches of the Parkinson’s Disease Society, the publication of a Poetry Diary and a Poetry Address Book sold in aid of the PDS. This year I wrote and read my own poem in St Edmondsbury's Cathedral, at the PDS Eastern Region Carol Concert, which was met with enthusiastic applause from all those present, a congregation in excess of 500.
All I ask of you is that you support us by signing our petition to save this site from closure. You may contact me direct, via e-mail, or alternatively visit the 'Get Writing' community, where we have since launched a campaign on another BBC site; iCan. It can be found found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/ican/G893
We do hope to include a separate link listing all the published authors/organisations who have kindly signed our petition, and would be extremely grateful if you were to add a few words of encouragement, in your response, that we may possibly quote, with your permission of course, within our campaign website or to the press. We would also be willing to post details of your own website and/or photo as a measure of goodwill.
I appreciate the time it has taken for you to read this, as I'm sure you are very busy, and really hope that you can provide us with your backing.
'Get Writing' is an invaluable catalyst for both myself and many thousands of others. It would be a terrible shame for such a place of excellence to close down.
We, as a community, would also be most obliged if you could forward this on to other writers/organisations you may know of, or provide us with any other helpful contacts who may be of assistance. Thanking you in advance.
Yours sincerely,
Chris......

Clarissa & Chris,
Yes, I agree but we are apparently 'writers' so should exercise due care in any form of correspondence. It sets a good image too.
And dear folks,
We will be dancing and laughing for all of you who sadly can't make it, although I'm not the greatest on my feet but wil give it a go, and it is all the more special as it it Clarissa's 21st Birthday!!
