I'm off. If you need my help with this GW site close thing then let me know. I have skills that you may feel are useful like running businesses and being financial and such like. I'll log on tomorrow, but I think it will be swamped with indignation and silly comments and will not be constructive. you'll not find the wheat from the chaff.
You are fairly pivotal in this web site, please let me know if you need my help - if any.

Thanks Calvin.
I'm now getting riled with some of the time-wasters and fecking stirrers, BUT there is enough decent folk out there willing to do something.
Really glad you were about tonight to put some perspective on reality, and posting constructive and worthwhile points.
I'm on here for a while so if anything of worth materialises I will let ye know.
You know your stuff and I'm behind you all the way too.
Sleep well and 'think' in those dreams!
Good to chat with you again.
Take care.

Hi Calvin, Hope all is good with you. I suspect that you may have been keeping your eye on the 'GW Site Closure Members Meeting' http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/getwriting/F1704378?thread=539789&skip=0&show=20 The next part for discussion is due on: 4) The Future if GW closes. a) Buying GW b) Moving to a new site 5) AOB 6) End of Meeting I thought that you, most of all, and if you have time and are still interested, would beable to give worthy insight and advice/ideas on this. You made great points last night and seem more than qualified in this line of expertise. To be honest, I am a bit disappointed with the input and activity tonight. Reckon more are reading than responding, which is fine, yes but we need a little more weight. I think I've said all I can say, plus my fingers are sore and I have an application to fill in and book reviews to do! Chat to you soon, Jen

Not sure there is a lot I can add.
To set up a site outside the Beeb would cost a lot of time and effort and money. I don't subscribe to the view you can do it easily. I think the most logical thing is to ask some major sponsor to take it on like Microsoft or one of the tv channels. The problem is even though there are 230k listed members, there are probably only a few thousand active ones.
I also don't know what other writing sites are out there - I am sure there are a few.
If it was just a question of money then I think that we could sort that - but it is the time and enthusiasm and IT skill. I'm not in that industry, although in a general business sense I could help.
There are several putting a costing together, I will keep close to them and see whether I can add anything there. I am not a natural protested and personally I don't think this will work - so I'll let others have a go at that!
I'll let you know where the external web site setteruppers get to!

Geez, my brain is fried tonight. All posting, chatting, discussing too quickly!
I do think a lot of good stuff was raised and it's great to see people getting involved and willing to help, but really, what can we realistically do?
Thoth sent me this link - about 30 pages and covers a lot of what we're enquiring about. Take a look:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/info/policies/pdf/bbc_gr...
It's a pdf document but worth a read. Note para 2.2.1
I don't think we really stand a chance. Or maybe I need more sleep and get out of grumpy mood, eh? !
What d'you think?
And please do keep me posted. There is so many threads it's so easy to miss out on. I'll kep you posted on what I can too. Cheers.
