Words

I've just read the front page article on NIT (this won't be front page any more, just search it) and it reminded me of a similar game my family kind of invented. Anyone who is quite bored enough to be looking at my journel will switch off promptly...It worked like this, one player would select two likely looking letters from the destination (say Cranbrook) maybe CR, and then we would look for words which had those two letters in them. The letters don't have to be next to each other either in the destination or in the words

For example, crisis and crossing are fine, as are cardiac, rock and heretical. The only problem is, you have to see them written down somewhere, and words can only be used one (although plurals and verb forms count as different words)

You can either do this as a point scoring game or as a collaborative effort - in either case the competition can get quite stiff. If scoring bonus points should be awarded to the person who first spots the desitination.

As a safety note, the driver should not play. Particularly if it's my dad.

Woods

I thought this morning that I'd like just to go into the woods and lie down in some undergrowth and maybe rot. That'd be quite a peaceful and eco-friendly way of dying - I'd get eaten crows and ants and leaf mould and just recycled into the eco-system.

How's that for eternal life?

Maybe I should stop walking through the woods of a morning.

procrastination

Why is it I only ever go on h2g2 when I have lots of work to do?

Ooh, seekers of knowledge, now Alysdragon seeks with you...

Relate any findings which pertain to this quest, I pray.

Or don't actually. I suspect I know the reason, and you telling me it is just going to make it worse, because then I'll know you know and you be all like judging me. And you know, that's just going to make me cantankerous, and then I'll think I really don't need you input, damn you. Who asked your opinion anyway? I can organise my own time thank you very much, I know exactly what I'm doing. Go on, clear off, clear off the lot of you, before I release the creatures in the undergrowth.

Bloody impertinance that's what it is.

Vampires

A warning to all seekers of wisdom, truth and knowledge: I am not exactly aquainted with any of these entities. If you DO happen to see them, tell them I said hi, and they're welcome to stop by for smiley - tea whenever they choose. But normally you won't find them here. You might hear the beasts in the trees, but if you ignore them, they shouldn't hurt you.

I am, however, obsessed with vampires - or wampyr - smiley - vampire not least because the most famous vamp of all time shared a name very similar to mine: Vovoide (or occasionally Prince) Son of The Dragon rather than alysdragon, but that makes him almost family... But this obsession has never really genreated into much except a bunch of questions - as I say, wisdom, truth and knowledge really haven't dropped by in ages and sometimes, you know, I miss them. I used to ask these questions to my real life friends, but the responses I got were varied, like "Why ask something that pointless?", "Vampires don't really exist, you know that, right?", "Alys, if you don't stop asking these questions I'll have to kill you..." and then the conversation degenerated into me saying "Please, put down the knife... Really, put down the knife. I'm sre we can sort this out amicably" and a sort of gutteral screaming on the other person's part.

So, I thought that it might be sensible to leave off that line of questioning. And then! Hahah! hootoo to the rescue and suddenly I can ask these interesting and fulfilling questions to a broad range of open minded and intelligent people.

Plus, it's online, so you can't come near me with sharp objects. smiley - ok This entry deals with killing vampires

Any suggested answers welcome, provided they don't bite.
Premise: Vampires need to be pierced through the heart with a wooden stake, right? Okay.

1) Can you stake a vampire with paper, if you get it hard enough?

2)What about, like, reconsitituted wood?

3)If yes, why did you answer no to paper? That's all paper is. Unless it's rag paper.

4) Do laminate things work - sometime in Buffy I seem to recall someone mock-stakes a vamp with wood effect plastic - but what if they have a thin wooden veneer on them?

5) If yes, and you don't have anything suitable to hand - could you use a metal spike wrapped in paper?

6)Does it have to be the wood itself that peirces the vamp's heart first? Cos that's going to be hard work getting through the sternum. Otherwise, can you use a metal spike on a broom handle?
