Lindisfarne newbie!

Hi Pit; just spotted your comment & link to Lindisfarne on Lil's thread, have just spent around an hour following up You Tube links & working out how to try & play along to 'Lady Eleanor' on a weird instrument called a 'psalter'...if you have any clue as to this beautiful smiley - musicalnote thing, please let me know!

(I used to play mandolin, but had to sell it; i used to play bass, but it got nicked, i used to busk, now i merely appear onstage in rural Oirland occasionally...)

Anyway, since i am among other things, an ACE, "Welcome to the weird & wonderful hootoo place"...do feel free to visit my Personal Space, by the way, if you write anything on your own PS; it's much easier for others to contact you; even "hello, it's me" would do; you can always edit it later.

Hope you are enjoying wandering around here, it's great site.

I first met Lindisfarne way back, aged around 15, they were playing at some golf course near Birmingham, me & my friend went there, pretending we were Youth Hostelling, we actually were at the bar before the gig, i remember Alan Hull buying me a half of cider; only many years later did i realise usually the audience don't get to chat to the band!

So i decided to start taking photos of all these hippies & later punks; and then found smiley - magic you get to chat to them once more!!!

So: what are you into, apart from Lindisfarnesmiley - ok? Are you ageing hippie like me, or newbie who has discovered the joys ofsmiley - peacedovesmiley - peacesignsmiley - rainbowsmiley - musicalnote etc?

Have somesmiley - cake& smiley - cider while you think about it!

Hmm...let me get some smiley - ale before I answer in depth..OK, got one.

Psalter - yes, I know. Apart prom my gramps having had a neighbour who played the zither, I´m not averse to things medieval - I even know that a hurdygurdy translates as a drehleier. (to me it sounds like a uileann pipe with strings, but don´t tell that to a piper)

Lindisfarne - I stumbled onto them when they nearly got into the top 10 in the German(yes, they did)charts back in the early 70s. "Meet Me on the Corner"...still one of my favourites.

Ageing (ageing? YOU? Come off it!) hippie - no. As stated in another thread, surviving biker rather. Not peace love and kif, we prefered beer bikes and birds.

Music - mainly things from back then, but as "today´s music ain´t got the same soul"(who sang that?smiley - winkeye) I´m into Britfolk, medieval, and, of course old friend Bach. As to the latter - look at someone I heard live year before last - that man sold his first records in 1953!

Hiya Pit, smiley - ta for those links! That guy Jacques is pretty awesome isn't he? I went from the one you sent to him doing 'Air on a Gstring', since my partner & i had been discussing smiley - musicalnote'Earworms', such as 'Whiter Shade of Pale'; which apparently is partly based around that. So, i've earwormed him even more by sending him that link, plus the lyrics!smiley - evilgrin

So, who's targeting you?*hunts around for Phantom targeter*

smiley - biggrin"A Whiter Shade of Pale" and Air on a GString" - that isn´t the only piece Johann Sebastian Bach got into the Top Ten! Look at Jethro Tull´s Bourree...composer Ian Anderson, but Bourrée in e minor was JSB, a few hundred years earlier. Even nicer: the Bourrée was a medieval dance, so he stole it, too. Plus ca change...
