Saw your posting at the atheist fundamentalist thread, and looked up your Uspace. We appear to share an interest in a couple of things, namely, atheist fundamentalism, and loud music.

So I thought I'd pop round, say hello, and introduce myself. I'm known around h2g2 as "PC", presumably as my handle's too long to type. I'm quite keen on loud music (I also dig free-form stuff that's all over the place, if not necessarily loud). I like other things, too. smiley - smiley

Pleased to make your acquaintance! Looking forward to seeing you around.

Hi PC

nice to meet you - I 've seen you about before, but I tend to get you confused with Pattern Chaser, aka PC, who seems to be a very intelligent and thoroughly nice bloke, but rather ironically a Christian.

Sadly I don't spend enough time on here to hold proper conversations like most of the regulars - for fear of being sacked - but am at home tonight (on a Friday! smiley - grr) getting slowly drunk so I thought I'd check me space - and I have two messages from fellow atheists!

Anyhoo, what's this free-form stuff?

Hello again!

I quite possibly won't have much time for posting from work, either, in the near future. I have a huge project coming up and I should probably spend some of each workday actually working on it. smiley - winkeye

But I'll look forward to hearing from you whenever I do.

As far as this free-form stuff, I'm a huge fan of Sun Ra. Dunno if you're familiar, so here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Ra. He was a genius.

I also like some mellower stuff, Syd Barrett and Alex Chilton (Box Tops, Big Star), and all kinds of 60s psychedelia. I'm especially fond of some Spanish and Turkish stuff I'd found, and some Thai pop covers from the same era.

Loud stuff really is awesome, though! Punk and Aussie garage rock are particular favorites of mine. smiley - ok

I also have seen Pattern-chaser around, and he does seem like a really nice, and quite intelligent guy. Unfortunately, some of his beliefsv make it hard for me to take him terribly seriously.

Anyway, enjoy your Friday night! I'll be staying home, too, my significant other has band practice so I intend to tidy up the apartment. I'd gotten the cat a cardboard box-thingy, with a corrugated scratching surface and catnip... he's been chewing it while we're at work and leaving cardboard confetti bits all over the dining room. So tonight, it's a couple glasses of smiley - redwine, the vacuum, and some really loud tunes. smiley - winkeye

I thought I'd replied to this on Friday night, but my reply isn't here smiley - huh Too much smiley - redwine obviously.

Hope you enjoyed your Friday. I think my take on loud music may be a bit different to yours - I'm currently listening to Flaw, but like Machine Head and a load of other stuff you probably wouldn't approve of smiley - winkeye. Most of it is from your neck of the woods too. It is interesting that everything you mention seems to be from outside the US?

Mellow is fine too, but I prefer traditional acoustic Scottish and Irish folk.

But must get some work done - love to the cat, and see you about smiley - ok

I don't disapprove of all that much music. I know a bit about Machine Head, never heard of Flaw. Haven't listened to a lot of metal over the past several years- all we seem to have in the States is NuMetal, and it reminds me too much of grunge, which I mostly disliked. I was quite fond of Diamond Head and Budgie back in the day. And a couple of others.

It's been duly noted and pointed out that a good deal of my favorite music (Alex Chilton and Husker Du notwithstanding) is not of USAian origin. Especially as my significant other is very much into a great deal of American stuff. But, I'll listen to just about anything. Except stuff with a thudding dance beat. smiley - winkeye

Never listened to much Scottish or Irish folk, but then again, I'm not of Scottish or Irish descent, so I've not had much exposure. Any recommendations? (And does Van Morrison count? smiley - winkeye)

Must get some work done myself... looking forward to seeing around.

Well, my favourites are Capercaillie (Scottish) and Solas (Irish, or Irish-Canadian or something); they're both quite big over here. I tend to see loads of little bands too at folk festivals, think they're really good live, buy the CD and then get disappointed 'cos the production's not up to much. Can't remember any names off hand though. Some of the English stuff's not bad either (although being Scottish it pains me to admit it smiley - winkeye), but thats a bit more obscure.

And no, Van Morrison doesn't count, although he does live near me (in England) and his old studio is right next to my work. He's a bugger for grabbing big parking spaces allegedly smiley - sadface

Nu Metal is much maligned IMO. I think bands like Linkin Park, Evanescence and of course the mighty 'Knot are rather good. They are just the latest generation of 'new' smiley - erm metal - to lump them all together in this 'Nu' category seems a bit unfair.

Of those three, I'd listen to Linkin Park or Slipknot if they were on. Though I'll have to admit I wouldn't go out of my way to do so. Evanescence I don't care for, but I think it's because of this weird thing I have... I don't like a majority of female vocalists, and we think it's something to do with register. But I digress. smiley - smiley

Will see if I can find some Capercaillie or Solas and give them a listen. smiley - ok

And I hate it when people hog big parking spaces.

Hope you're having a good day over there! I'm half asleep- it's as if I hadn't gotten any sleep at all, when in fact I managed six or seven hours...
