Hello! I'm Bob McBob, your guide to H2G2. I'm a real person (I think) so you can leave me a message any time you want. Firstly...

Welcome to H2G2!

Thanks for becoming a Researcher for H2G2: you can now add to the huge collection of entries written by researchers on the subject of Life, The Universe and Everything. The best entries go through to the Edited Guide. Feel free to <./>browse</.> through them with a cup of smiley - coffee. You can also <./>contribute</.> your own entries by clicking Add Entry, and then submit it to be reviewed by the other researchers in PeerReview (for entries that meet the <./>Writing-Guidelines</.&gtsmiley - winkeye or Writing-Alternative (for entries that don't).

smiley - smiley You can now also comment on entries written by other people, and don't forget to include some <./>Smilies</.> for good measure.

Catch the 63B smiley - bus to the <./>DontPanic-Tour</.> for a better guide to what to do in H2G2, and stop off at the <./>Welcome</.> page.

You might like to read what BlueRedBlue has written about Oxford at A296228. Or you can add your own perspective to the Guide by adding an entry.

You may be interested to know you can change your nickname, and the way you view H2G2 by clicking on the Preferences button.

smiley - dontpanic If you need help with H2G2 click on <./>DontPanic</.> (or the "h2g2 help" button), and, as if by magic, your question will be answered.

If you get stuck by something in the real world, look at <./>AskH2G2</.> or <./>HowDoI</.>. This is also the place to chat over some smiley - tea.

smiley - thepost Don't forget the weekly <./>ThePost</.>, and please look through the save the albatross pages at A552908. If you want to join a h2g2 society, some are listed in C590.

Now I'll just nip off for a nice cup of smiley - tea and some smiley - cake, but you can contact me by clicking reply or clicking on my name and leaving me a message. Feel free to contact me if you want to know anything - what to do with your spork (smiley - spork), why some people have italic names or want to add to the longest thread in H2G2.

Hi Bob and thanks for your note smiley - ok
I am not entirely sure I understand the concept of "peer-review" in this instance. When one thinks of peer-review in terms of academic articles then it is something which occurs pre-publishing, however items on h2g2 are effectively "published" for all to read as soon as one submits them, no?

smiley - smiley Hi again!

Yes, entries appear on your personal space and are able to be searched for as soon as they are created.

However, to get it read by anyone and put into the Edited guide and on the Front Page for a day, it should be submitted when finished so everyone knows it's there. Being in the edited guide means it appears nearer the top of the searches, and also appears in the categorisation system.

The best way to see how this works is by going to PeerReview and looking arround. Other researchers help the writer to improve their entry. If you want to view the comments for entries in Peer Review, click the link under "Currently in: Peer Review" on the right-hand info bar.

I hope that helps smiley - winkeye If it doesn't then just post smiley - huh or something and I'll waffle on some more.

Also look through the <./>DontPanic-ReviewForums</.> help page on Review Forums, like Peer Review.
