Good afternoon
U832688 Started conversation Sep 1, 2004
Hi Rich,
Still sporting long talons and typing is a bit hap-hazard.
Returned the purloined book and legally borrowed Death In Paradise. Is one you recommended to me ?
If I don't manage to make much head-way with it, is it any good ?
Have a lovely day, hope the sun is shining. You're not about much these days....
Jen
Good Thursday morning
Rich_Dee Posted Sep 2, 2004
Hi Jen
Haven't read "Death In Paradise" yet, but I did read the latest Jesse Stone novel "Stone Cold" - a lot more sex & violence in that series than in Parker's "Spenser" and "Sunny Randall" series, but the dialogue is just as snappy, and the chapters are short.
Been trying to recover from my week in Aylesbury, all that sleep deprivation caused by the warm office that I was sleeping in, and various bumps in the night! I shouldn't joke about youngest nephew's purple eyes & white skin, cos he looked even worse after another 4 nights of no sleep. Sadly he has inherited insomnia from us, and also he's very quiet & easily victimised like I was at school.
I'd better fess up to the other reason I haven't been around the CB - I've been cultivating a new internet friendship across the pond, if you know what I mean...
See ya
Rich
Blimey - I've pulled!

Rich ! That's . No wonder you're having a . My very limited use of the smileys means I can't be very expressive.
Enjoy your day,
Love
Jen
Good Thursday morning
U832688 Posted Sep 3, 2004
Morning Rich,
Friday and sunny here. Until a stream of unexpected friends turned up for one reason or another, I was really enjoying the book. Yes, I much prefer short chapters. Makes me want to turn the pages faster - does that make sense ?
I am truly sorry to hear your nephew is victimised at school. Often what are described as the happiest days of one's life simply aren't. And being quiet is such a sin isn't it, Rich. Just being 'different' is a reason for life to be made hellish at times.
Good luck with your trans atlantic love affair
Bye, Rich,
Jen and x
Good Friday morning
Rich_Dee Posted Sep 3, 2004
Hi Jen
Thanks for concern about nephew. Don't want to post too much here about it, cos this is such an open chatroom, but he is definitely the introverted one of my sister's 4 kids - the others are all capable of looking after themselves when parents are too busy. Perhaps things will be better if nephew shows a sudden growth spurt like his older brother did, after being the shortest one in the class.
Trans-Atlantic love affair may have hit a snag, as she has just asked me "When was the last time you...?" So, I have tried to be as honest as possible without scaring her away! FYI, yes I have seen a picture of her, and she is waaaay out of my league. And I managed to get out of sending her a photo of myself. So that's a result for me, I guess!
Good Friday morning
U832688 Posted Sep 3, 2004
Hey, Rich, don't do yourself down. And don't forget, she'll have sent you the best possible picture of herself
That's what I like about the message boards ! You can be anything or anybody you want to be. I can flirt outrageously, spelling ?, but I could never do so in the real world. Oh, that's a song I really like. I am not shy but then, I'm not at the opposite sex...
Rich, please tell me easy ways to do smileys. Like 8 - ) or something. Smiley guide for an idiot......
Yes, I forget these message boards are open to all. Say no more about the children. I think I understand.
Hey, am going soon to Italia ! Pasta, wine, sun, sea, scenery, Italians.....
Ciao, caro,
Jen
and a and good luck with
Good Friday morning
U832688 Posted Sep 3, 2004
Oops, meant to say good luck with the American Beauty !
Good Saturday morning
Rich_Dee Posted Sep 4, 2004
Hi Jen
Miss Amerika sent me a pic of herself overnight - I would like to trust that's exactly what she looks like because she scrubs up SO well!
I should add that her personal politics are somewhat to the right of Norman Tebbit, in fact she would probably make Scott Clout seem like Robin Cook. So Miss Amerika will be an interesting challenge to my own Liberal-Conservative upbringing!
Italy sounds great - always wanted to go there myself. When are you going? Maybe the same time that my older sister is on her Med cruise?
Rich
Good Saturday morning
U832688 Posted Sep 14, 2004
Hi Rich Bc ,
Italy was great fun; it's a wonderful country.
How are you and Miss America 2004 going along ? Don't talk about politics, could lead to tears before bedtime.
Took Mr Parker on holiday, but he stayed in his room all week !
Jen
xx
Good Saturday morning
Rich_Dee Posted Sep 18, 2004
Hi Jen
Glad you liked Italy, how about taking me along next time?
Sorry for the delay in replying - I haven't looked on H2G2 for a while.
Romance with Miss Amerika has floundered as I have not heard from her for about 8 days. I'm still keeping the flame alive - when she first responded after a long silence, said she was sorry she hadn't replied, but was glad I'd kept in touch with her. So fingers crossed.
I've just finished a huge new novel - "The Falls" by Joyce Carol Oates - just in time to return it to the library for the next couple of people who've reserved it.
"The Falls" is a 480 page family saga, stretching from 1950 to 1978, set in a fictional city at Niagara Falls - the plot seems to be based on a real-life radioactive dumping scandal of the 1940s & 50s.
Very much a "literary" novel, rather than a straightforward thriller, but I was completely taken by all the characters. Perhaps the novel will be nominated for a Booker?
I won't waste my breath telling you I'm not BC, because you wouldn't believe me!
Rich
Paranoid JYY !
U832688 Posted Sep 18, 2004
Rich,
Will hopefully reply later. Sorry about the Bc thing, truly, and I believe you,
Jen

Relieved Rich !
Rich_Dee Posted Sep 19, 2004
Thanks Jen, look forward to hearing from you.
I don't think much of today's music in the library - melancholy tunes with a woman screeching over them - sounds like a cross between Siouxsie, Hazel O'Connor and that dreary band Portishead...
By the way, I forgot to mention, in the novel that I've just finished - "The Falls" by Joyce Carol Oates - the three children are called Juliet, Royall and.... Chandler!

Hi Rich !
I don't really miss Friends any more. Thought I would, but glad that I have some sort of life going
Not much news. Weather grey and cold. Just thought I would say hello, plus was getting cheesed off with apologising to everyone
Jen
PS How's your other correspondence going ? Well I hope..
Where oh where has my true love gone?
Rich_Dee Posted Sep 23, 2004
Hi Jen
More apologies??? Have you been a bad girl?
I tried to reply to you twice this morning, and both times the terminals froze up just as I was about to send the long message!
MY "correspondence" is slightly one-sided at the moment. Not that I'm counting or anything, but it's been thirteen days since I had a response from you-know-who. Perhaps she's on vacation? I've sent her a little message every day, so I hope she doesn't freak out when she finally checks her e-mails and...!
I know what you mean about "Friends". Last Sunday I saw my first episode for several months, the one with Denise Richards as Ross & Mon's sexy cousin, and Joey's silly putty "appendage" at his naked audition. Actually, the episode seemed a lot funnier this time round.
I've checked the "Epguides" website for details of the new "Joey" sitcom. There are two new Tribbianis in the cast, and also the actress Jennifer Coolidge, who played the woman who speaks with a fake British accent on her "mobile" (I thought that particular Friends episode was very anti-British). Jennifer Coolidge also played the large manicurist in "Legally Blonde" and the boozy mom in "American Pie", so she's a pretty well-known actress.
Winter is certainly on its way, as I just picked my first pumpkin from the garden. Seventeen-and-a-half inches around, but only weighing two-and-a-half pounds. Will probably be good for four servings of something tasty...
Other signs of impending Christmas: selection boxes in Woolworths and a very hot Christina Aguilera calendar in Clintons!
Rich

U832688 Posted Sep 23, 2004
Hi Rich
Which did you look at the most, selection boxes or the calendar. Don't answer. I shall buy it for you for Christmas. (If they're that hot, they'll sell out, oh, by November)
Sorry about Miss A Maybe you shouldn't send her an e mail every day. Play hard to get
I know the episode you mean. I liked that one, especially when Phoebe started freaking out.
No, I have not been bad, just apologising for getting people all mixed up together, and I don't think I need to elaborate further do I
Sometimes it's fun to joke, but other times it xxxxx me off. We'll see how things go.
Anyway, Rich, have a lovely day tomorrow
Love
Jen

Hi Jen
Well, it's National Dating Day today, and once again my date has not turned up (sigh). But the last time she returned after a long absence, she apologised for not replying and said that she was glad I'd been mailing her. Also, she seems to like a lot of attention...
I'll have to wait until I next go shopping in Colchester before I select my calendar for 2005. There's usually a calendar shop there which sells just about every design you could think of - including every single breed of dog, ferret & movie star. My 2004 calendar was the lovely Kelly Brook - maybe a different actress next year?
Was going to make pumpkin soup yesterday... but couldn't find any nutmeg! Disaster!!!
A few more details about "Joey" - the two new Tribbianis are Joey's sister Gina (played by an extremely hot-looking actress) and Joey's 20-yr-old nephew who is "literally a rocket scientist". So maybe we will be getting a few more wacky inventions like the Giant Poking Device for ugly naked guy?
Have a great weekend

U832688 Posted Sep 24, 2004
Hi Rich,
Didn't ugly naked guy die
Yes, saw your offer on MB, don't think you'll get many takers on there! It's the wrap that's putting them off (Yes, I have chicken pox)
Quite a cook then. Shame about the nutmeg.....
See you soon, off out in about 10 mins,
enjoy your week-end, hope the longed for e mails turn up !

Rich_Dee Posted Sep 25, 2004
Hi Jen
Relieved that somebody has replied to me, cos yours is the only reply I've had this morning
Just had a look at the CB - seems everyone was having a big party last night, while there was me, 37 years old and stuck at home with a bowl of pumpkin soup and my ageing mother. As you might imagine, I am a bit p***ed off this morning for various reasons.
If you remember, ugly naked guy was only sleeping & the giant poking device woke him up. He moved out & left his apartment to ugly naked Ross.

Oh Rich, Don't YOU make me cry as well !
Every cloud, you still make me smile babe.
Too late for me. Just a witch. But you know that don't you.
Oh......................J
