Oh Jen
Wish I could say it was all my doing, but, of course, it was Corrie.
She is sOOO clever, and lovely with it. She has endless patience, I don't know how many times she had to tell me what to do.
Must have an early night.
Got up before dawn this morning, couldn't sleep. Was all ready for anything at 7-oo. Weird.
Bloody drain-men didn't show up. Grrrrr!
See you tomorrow.
Congratulations

Hi Fly.
This morning I awoke and thought it was about 5 am. Laid still and tried desperately to go back to sleep. When I got out of bed it was 10.15 !
The previous day it was 11.30 but my back was so bad that the pain killers I took knocked me out for six.
I think it's getting better on the message boards and there have been some laughs. I cannot be bothered with people who just want to argue all the time.
Night night, hope you have a better night's sleep. Or at least don't wake with the larks. Do you get the birds singing where you are ? Because we are more or less in the country, the birds are very vociferous. When my daughter left home and moved to the 'inner' city, she said birds were the last thing she missed.
She said every morning there was one magpie just outside her bedroom window. She always said 'Hello sorrow' Still makes me laugh !
Jen

Oh Jen,
Your sleeping pattern is as bad as mine. Before I had all this fence/drain problem I had a time that I was sleeping really well. These boards seem to relax me somehow and when it's nice, I go to bed with a good feeling.
I was waking up at about 8.00 every morning. That means, half the day has gone before I get myself together. Crawl out of bed, to the kitchen, kettle on, T.V.on, take tea to sitting room, get paper from the porch. And that's my downfall, the paper. Keep thinkig: After I've read this I must get going. doh
One of my friends is an early bird. We were going to Worthing together, she said she'd pick me up at 9-15. Set the alarm for 7-30. Awoke to music but had the feeling it had been playing for some time.(Sometimes go to sleep with the radio on) Grabbed the clock. 9-05. PANIC PANIC PANIC. Didn't know what to do first. Flew from bathroom to kitchen and back again, moaning all the time...ooooohh..ooooohh.
Wondered how much time I'd lost panicking, glanced at the clock in the kitchen....7-05. Lie down again.
I have one friend who can go to sleep just for anhour just when she feels like it. Must be wonderful.
Yes, the boards are a bit better, but it's very quiet, isn't it, and very slow. I'm keeping an eye on them.
See you!!!
Congratulations

Hi Fly.
You made me laugh at the thought of you moaning and groaning thinking you were late. Hope you enjoyed Worthing. I lived and worked there many many years ago. It was a nice place but I thought it was full of old people !
My other half is off to Spain on Sunday and I made a big thing about telling him that the clocks were going forward an hour. Because I am usually a trustworthy and reliable person, he told all his mates.
You can imagine the stick we both took when it was discovered we were wrong. All my fault as I have been living a week in advance !
I no longer get a newspaper delivered. I would get up and no matter what I had to do, I always managed to find something interesting to read. So these days, if I want a paper I go to Tesco and buy one.
I like to do the crosswords in the Daily Mail and we both like doing the word wheel. Don't know if you get the DM at all ?
Have a lovely weekend. We are eating Italian tomorrow evening - Saturday. Sunday my daughter is staying so I shall cook and then hopefully we'll go to the cinema. We would like to see Julia Robers in 'The Mona Lisa Smile' I shall try to book seats tomorrow.
Take care, yes I do find the message boards interesting and usually fun. Sending e mails like this and on the other boards is a bit like when I was younger and had pen friends.
My sister has been writing to the same pen friend for the past 35 years and yet they have never met. They have spoken on the phone but that's all. My sister is in London and her pen friend is in Scotland,so they're not worlds apart !
Love
Jen

HiyaJennifer,
Yes, I do have the DM. Always look at my stars first, although it's not the same since Jonathan Cainer.
We go to Worthing because it's our nearest town. There isn't much to get excited about there. My friend goes to the hairdressers there, I have a look around the shops and then we go off again, stop somewhere at a pub for lunch etc.
I prefer Worthing in winter. When my husband was alive we used to love walking along the beach when it was freezing cold, nobody else there then. I still really like that.
I've got a few reservations about h2g2, I really preferred the "togetherness" on the CB board, but, of course, it all depends who is in the CB at the time.
Here, it seems that you're more alone, although I know that isn't so.
We ought to have one of our parties on CB soon, but they don't seem to take off as they used to, don't know why. I think it has to be spontanious. If we say: "Let's have a party tomorrow at 7.00, it doesn't seem to work.
What do you think?
Hope you enjoyed your Italian. Let's know what the film was like.
Congratulations

Hi Fly
6.21 am and hve been up snce 5.00. Very windy and cold here.
Plus, I ate too much at the Italian and drank far too much so not a bit of wonder I can't sleep.
Just boiled a kettle for a hottie and put on the central heating. I must book the film seats today as we are hoping to catch the 7.00pm performance.
I still prefer the R2 boards to be honest, because you can see all conversations and join in if you feel like it.
A lot of things on H2 board are very serious or very wierd in some cases.
Take care
Jen

Hi Jennifer,
Why do we do it, drink too much, eat too much...it all seems such a good idea at the time.
I had to get up early to watch the Grand Prix. Couldn't get to sleep worrying that the clock wouldn't go off.
Yesterday I decided this was it!!! I will take myself in hand.. healthy eating, ? moderate drinking.
Only to get up this morning to discover that my proud new fence is hanging off the posts!!!
Went out and came back with TWO custard doughnuts!! I don't even like them very much from this supermarket, they are very wet.
Indigestion again to-night.
Hope you enoyed the film.
I keep looking at the CB board but can't seem to get back into it.
Congratulations
Geordie Girl Posted Mar 21, 2004
Hello Fly
Hope you are okay after your doughnuts! I like custard ones but can't eat many. I thought of you yesterday when I heard on the Radio that Princess Juliana had died.
Sorry to hear about your fence just after you've had it fixed, our neightbours is down I suppose it will keep the fence construction industry in business for a while.
I keep looking out for everyone in the CB as I miss it too. Must make an effort!
See you later!
Helen.
Congratulations
FLYBYNIGHT Posted Mar 21, 2004
Hi Helen,
I think I don't want another custard doughnut for a good while.
Yes, isn't it a pain, the fence down again and I haven't paid the bill yet. Perhaps just as well, but I have a feeling the man is going to suggest new posts. (not on here!!!)
I am a very bad patriot, I didn't even know Juliana was still alive. But she was a remarkable queen. My aunt lived nextdoor to a friend of Juliana's and J. would just turn up unannounced with her chauffeur and ring the doorbell. One day my aunt's neighbour wasn't in and my aunt shouted down from an upstairs window (Auntie lived on the first floor.) All very odd, I think. I know J. used to keep her cigarettes in an old lozenges tin.
I don't know what I think about all that, there are certain standards to maintain, I think. Maybe I've been away too long.
The CB. I keep having a look but it seems to be a one-man-band nowadays, don't you think? and the gentle times seem to have gone. Is it me?
Congratulations

Hi Fly
What an amazing storey about Princess J! They said on the radio about her sending the children to state school and about ther riding around on a bike! My other half had a business colleague from KLM whose wife was the image of the present Queen. They were in the UK for a few years so we would meet them at various functions. I remember her raving about her first visit to a pantomime and how she wished they had them in Holland!
Just had a look in at the coffee bar and it's as you say. I'll make an effort and start a thread this week so perhaps the old gang can get involved!
Helen
Congratulations
FLYBYNIGHT Posted Mar 21, 2004
Hi Helen,
Do you know, I've never been to a pantomime! Not having had any children I suppose I never thought ofit. And my husband wasn't the type, whatever that means, but I can't imagine him sitting there, shouting: "Oh yes he IS". In the village there is this Darby and Joan Club and they go every year, maybe my time will come!.
I shall keep a lookout for you on CB but I fear it's been taken over completely. We might have known that, I suppose. Maybe he'll get bored without the arguments. I noticed Perkins only nipped in and out quickly, he must wonder where everybody is, I should think.
I can't usually answer many of your threads because, although I love music, my memory is so bad, I can never remember artists. I'm not much better with books and authors either. But I'll do my best, we must get our act together. It must be wonderful to have a memory like yours, I do admire that.
See you soon
Congratulations

Hi Fly.
Two custard donuts eh ? But I understand why you ate them. I would be stressed if the new fence was down.
Wild here still, but I managed to put some washing out before putting everything in the tumble drier. Will just wait and see what the next electric bill looks like.
Cooked a ghastly piece of beef today. I normally never eat meat, not because I'm a vegetarian, it's just that I don't like it very much. I'd rather have the veg and roast potatoes.
I overate last night and really felt quite poorly today. After lunch I fell asleep for 2 hours, so was not much company for my daughter. We have been to the cinema tonight and enjoyed it. She has now gone home to her own place.
Jen

Hi Fly and Helen.
I heard that Queen J had died and on the radio they replayed one of her later speeches in which she said how welcome she and her family had been made when they lived in England during the 2nd world war.
The film tonight was fine. I like Julia Roberts and so does my daughter so that was half the battle.
The film was basically about an American teacher (JR) in the early 1950s, and how women were seen as housewives and mothers. All very predictable, but a gentle and easy little film which didn't require any in depth analysis.
I am ok with the R2 boards, but have to admit that the conversations are dominated by The C. And unfortunately, I find the innuendo not terribly attractive.
But in the week during the day the conversations were fine. I have been trying to make an effort because it would be such a shame if the R2 boards disappeared altogether through lack of support.
Jen

I have sent one reply addressed to both you and Helen.
Hey, the Derby and Joan club can manage without you for a few years yet !

Hi Jen'
Glad you enjoyed the film. Pity about the beef, it's not easy to find a good joint, I've almost given up trying.
I agree, although S.C. could be quite funny, for me he has spoilt everything and he has brought the tone down from a friendly coffee bar and Super wine-bar to a low dive.
Am I over reacting?
Anyway, I'm going to have a look just now.
Ought to be doing some housework, the vacuum cleaner is lying there staring at me. Big blobs of dust under the bed, which I've always called "old men". They've got to go.
Wish we could have the smileys on CB
Congratulations
U643499 Posted Mar 22, 2004
Morning Fly,
No I don't think you are overacting about a certain person. To be honest I think he hogs the boards. Plus he does bring the conversation down to a certain level.
A bit of a dive is about right ! Smoky atmosphere, dirty flow and low life types.
Well, I think I've gone way over the top there, but whatever !
Jen and ?
Congratulations

Hi Jen,
Lovely and "normal" this morning, though, isn't it?
I wonder if he is sleeping it off this morning or he has gone out to buy a few more crates of beer.
See you
Thanks for the coffee and cake. Might as well start the afternoon right!
Congratulations
U643499 Posted Mar 22, 2004
(Have replied to you on CB about your Iris Quilling. I went on Google and looked it up. Sounds very relaxing)
I assume he works and only gets on his pc from the minute he arrives home until closing time. Oh, and then all week end too ! Him not me !!
But yes, it is very friendly there. My thoughts are that if we all leave, then we just leave the way open for the whole boards to degenerate even further. At the moment I feel like a rat deserting a sinking ship if I don't go and post at least sometime in the week.
Congratulations
U643499 Posted Mar 22, 2004
Sorry Fly, meant to type Iris Folding. Haven't found Quilling yet.
Typing is all to pot this afternoon
