Hellooo
I was tired too, but saw you were on line. I'll fall asleep in the day to compensate for the late hours.........

Funnily enough I slept remarkably well until about 6.30 am. I would like to say that I have been working really hard all day, but I fall in the sloth category on Jeremy's show.
Have a nice evening, Corrie,
Jen
PS Read some of your poems which you sent to Ruth. The one which was read out at Sandy's funeral was very touching.

Hi Jen,
After today's show I realized what a naughty girl I am. More fun that way, though.
Heard most of JV show and it was good to have him back. Kirsty is very intelligent and great at presenting the show but I do Jeremy. He played some brilliant music, as always.
Ruth's thread for verses etc is an inspirational idea. The ship one is lovely, I hope Sandy would have been pleased with it, but I think she maybe would have preferred a Billy Connelly joke. I'm not trying to make light of it, but Sandy would. That's why Heaven is a happier place with her in it.
I found a thread on here about jokes in the h2g2 community. Some of them are just so funny. The other night I was laughing so much I thought I was going to wake everyone up.

Hi Corrie.
I'll be honest with you, I didn't listen to Jeremy today because I thought he was still on paternity leave.
Kirsty is very good, but not as good as Jezza !
I'm no goody two shoes, and a bit of sinning is good for the soul !
I was a little bit peeved that 2 of my messages were returned, especially when you read some of the stuff that is written on the R2 boards in general. Well, I'll get over it.

Why were your messages returned? Seems crazy to me if they let the post his usual pants. He's provocative, cruel, pedantic, sarcastic; he tells whoppers and generally upsets everyone. His posts seem to stay. Don't understand. I haven't been there long and hardly go back anymore because it's so slow and I like it here more. I can't understand YOU being pulled though!

U643499 Posted Mar 23, 2004
Nor can I. I think someone else hadn't been listening to Jeremy and thought I was off topic !
PS I spilled red wine on my white cotton t shirt last night. How can I get it out ? It's now turned blue !

Ji J,
I'd check in Mrs. Beeton's maxims if I were you. If you find something, let me know.
Hope you and your friend have a lovely lunch.
I'm in and out all day but I'll try to keep an eye on your JV posts. Just seen PP's first maxim Wish I could play but I haven't got the book! Have fun.

Yes, it was fun. My friend and I had a lovely lunch from 12.30 to 4.30. The only blot on the landscape was when I spilled a glass of red wine on the carpet. How we laughed !
Mrs Beeton has no information. Lucky for me I have a copy of Good Housekeeping Hints and Tips.
Take care

Hi Jen
Was just going to ask how the lunch went when I saw the bit about the wine on the carpet! Did you get it out and what about the T shirt? What on earth did you put on to make it turn blue!!!
Just looked in trade secrets and they say sprinkle stain with salt then dunk in cold water and rub out stain before washing. For the carpet have you tried Vanish upholstery wipes?
Sounds like the lunch was a hit. We went to the Trafford Centre and had tapas which was lovely. Walked the rest of the mall after so was exhausted when we got home. Went in Next and saw a load of things but wasn't in the stripping off to try on mood so will go back another time. Bought a CD that has a Rick Astley track on it - not the usual one. I think the CD is called "Everyday Life" or something. It's about halfway through the first CD and is good.
I actually set the mini disc on Long play for JV today beacause the player thing is driving me mad. He played the Kinks Autumn Almanac. Oh yeah one shop I went into was playing Waterloo Sunset followed by Norah Jones Don't Know Why they sounded nice.
Which Schotts were you using? I've only got the original was it the food one?
Must go and put the other CD on (I nearly said turn it over - showing my age!)
See you in the morning
Night night!

Hi Helen.
Lunch was lovely. We had chicken chasseure, peas, green beans, red cabbage with apple, potatoes with brie, garlic bread and wine. And we laughed and laughed. Maybe it was the wine ! Unfortunately, I was sat on the couch (or should I say sofa ?) and put my wine glass on the carpet. Then when I stood up for something, I just kicked it over. My friend laughed and so did I. We both said how lucky my other half was away !!
I wiped it up immediately, but will see in the morning what it looks like.
I went line dancing with another friend last night and had a drink when I got home. My daughter was also staying the night as she had been babysitting for her god-daughter and it was easier for her to stay with me than go back to her own place. When I went to bed, I saw just a drop of red wine on this brilliant white t shirt, so I soaked it in water all night. This morning I applied the Stain Devil, then washed it, and the stain turned blue !!
Will try your tip. I have some Vanish for the carpet, so will look at it in the morning.
Didn't go out tonight, because I'd had a couple of glasses of wine this afternoon and my dancing is not so good at the best of times, so with liquor inside me, well .......
Glad you had a nice day today. Some friends own an apartment in Spain, overlooks a golf course, and they love tapas bars.
I know what you mean by not in the mood to try on clothes. I bought a pair of green 'kick flare' trousers from M&S. Hubby says they are bell bottoms. Needless to say, I have not worn them for line dancing as I am afraid I'll fall over.
Do you have any hobbies ? I was most impressed with Fly's. She does sound smashing company doesn't she.
I have the Schott's Original Misellany printed in 2002. It's got all sorts of info. A friend's son ordered it for me via Smiths on the internet. I bought 3 of them and gave away a couple as presents.
I am just waiting for himself to phone from Spain for the footie results.
No other news. Take care, Helen

Hi Jen
I tried to get on here this morning but a no-go area. Your lunch sounded yummy especially the potatoes and brie.
They start with the boiler tomorrow. I'm a bit concerned as things have a habit of going awfully wrong in this house, a bit like the old Flanders and Swan "Twas on A Monday Morning, the Gasman Came to Call"! I remember laughing at poor Dr Who in the coffee bar but it's not so funny when it happens to you! Fingers crossed!
I've got a Schotts and it's a mine amazing facts.
I do love Fly she sounds such a tonic. I used to do loads of things but have come to a grinding halt at the moment. I loved to sew and have done a load of soft furnishing classes, even got some NVQs for them! I've done dried and silk flowers but you get a bit sick of them and they go out of fashion. One of the classes I used to go to sounds a bit like the one Fly goes to. I used to do tapestry, some did lace making (far to complicated for me) but we used to have some fantastic conversations and not worry about how little we had to show at the end of the class!
I spend far too much time browsing the web but then I think what the heck, the only thing is it's not very sociable.
My closest friend emigrated to the US a couple of years ago and another's husband took early retirement and totally monopolises her so I rarely see her. Hence my presence on the MBs. I love radio though as it's always been on in our house. When I see those ads for talent on the BBC I often wish they had done them when I was young. My ideal situation would be to do Sally Traffic's job! A girl can dream can't she !!
Is you hubby back?
I think I'll give up on the 'song' on JV board unless something really jumps out at me. I did it partly as a thread for us to chat on a bit when they were really being strict. I almost did a 'not the first song' today with a Des O'Connor suggestion but thought better of it!
Well must go and move some of the clutter that is in the kitchen in preparation for tomorrow. I thought it was suppose to get warmer but we've just had a hail shower.
See you later

Hello Helen.
My pc has been down virtually all afternoon, major problems with the service provider. But up and running now.
As I am driving to the airport late tonight, I need to be able to access the plane time arrivals. (I can't manage the c fax or whatever it is on our new TV - all far too complicated)
I used the Stain Devil on my t shirt (twice) and it seems all right.
Not having a good day today. Went to the doctors and I am a little down. I thought I had a problem. So just waiting for my urgent appointment at the hospital. Should be within 2 weeks.
Then I was at the dentist at the emergency surgery. One of my crowns is playing up. So 45 mins there and another 1 hour appointment next week. I only went as I thought OMG I could be in hospital and have tooth ache. Didn't bear thinking about !
You are very artistic, Helen. I do wish I was. A friend of mine took up flower arranging and cake decorating. Now she does flowers and cakes for weddings. She is very talented like you.
I hope your central heating problems are sorted out soon. Today is lovely here. Sunshine but it is a little windy. And I have the central heating on.
I started to go on the net when I left work. I did work originally, but to be honest it was very stressful and I'm not sorry I left. I made some good friends there. But of course, most of them still work so are not available in the daytime ! My friend who I had lunch with yesterday left 3 years before I did. She works part-time now in a completely different working environment.
Yes, the song of the day has gone by the wayside !
No other news,
good luck tomorrow,
Jen

Hi Jen
Have you seen PPII's latest post over on JV? I dread to think what his reply to me will be!
Sorry to hear your news from the doctors, hope it's not too serious. Don't forget we're here. I'm thinking of something I heard on JV the other week and probably am putting 2 and 2 together and making 6. Tell me I'm wrong please.
Just got the airing cupboard to empty and some cases to move out of the loft.
PG has my email if you want it let her know I'm sure she'll pass it on.
Hope the plane is on time. I can never remember the right page for flight arrivals on the text.
I've a box full of flowers and associated bits in the garage I really must get rid of them. I used to do gift bows with that paper ribbon with flowers, fruit etc but I can't summon up the energy to get started these days! They are nice on bottles of wine etc.
Take care

Thank you, Helen, for being so thoughtful. And for the kind offer of the e mail address !
I think I may have heard something on JV show quite recently BUT, I don't honestly know. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks time. Push everything to the back of my mind until then. Well, apart from the dentist next week.
I am feeling brighter now, probably because I have had a sleep ! Missed nearly all of The Weakest Link.
PP has replied very kindly to you, so you're all right. I do agree with him that it's such a pity we don't celebrate like the Scots, Welsh and particularily the Irish.
Is it because the flag has been 'taken over' by the football hooligans and the NF. Probably.

I wasn't sure if PP was being facetious or not when I replied but perhaps he wasn't this time!
It is a shame that we are almost put off celebrating our national day in fear of it being mistaken for something else. With all this devolution I think we are the worst off as we don't seem to be able to be proud of our country anymore. We went to a St George's Day dinner once but it was awfully stiff upper lip and all not what I think it should be - a happy occasion to let your hair down like the Irish do on St Patricks.
The Irish certainly know how to live! I once went to a company Xmas party outside of Dublin. It was in a huge place with a live band. We were one of several groups including one from a church. What I'll never forget was a nun dancing to "Blanket On the Ground"!! I thought I've seen it all now.
Just off to watch the Bill.
