A Prayer for my only Daughter
Posted May 21, 2004
less than an hour ago ago my oldest child, my only daughter, left for her senior prom. She left not as a child, but as a beautiful young woman. In a few weeks she will be graduating from High School. After living with her father for seven months, she recently came back to live with me, a situation I won't go into here. I am so very grateful for these precious last few weeks of her "childhood" spent with me as these days dwindle by; a mere month after her graduation she will be leaving for training in the Air Force Reserve.
This freedom we enjoy and take so much for granted isn't free; someone has to foot the bill, be it with their money or their time. And so her time it is. MY child. No, God, don't take MY child. But SOMEbody's child has to go. Somebody has to take the responsibility.
Lord, I know You only gave her to me to raise; not to keep. Now I must turn her back over to You and only pray that I have done my best, and leave the rest up to You.
Watch over her tonight and in the days ahead, weeks ahead, years ahead. I can no longer keep her safe. Only You can.
