What's going on? why's GodBen suspended? It befuzzles me, truly I am befuzzled.

there was humourous references to religion made in the MotMV tea room, they were yikes and the topic of conversation drifted on, as is it's want. However a few days later the italics closed the thread while they investigated the numerous yikesings. GodBen was annoyed by this, as we'd all moved on from that, so he blocked the pages from being viewable and said why he was doing it, namely the heavyhanded response from the italics. He kind of dared them to suspend him for it as he was getting sick of the totalitarian nature h2g2 is developing and they did. Now he wants to come back to say by and give people contact details as he's decided to leave h2g2 but they won't let him as he's not sorry for what he did, and personally I agree with him.

I think this thing's pointless. You can't have potentially inflammatory comments on religion on the BBC boards, you can't obstruct the mods from doing their job and if you try you're in the wrong. Plus all he has to do is remove his head from a tight dark place and admit he was wrong and they'll unsuspend him. Not campaign-worthy in my eyes.

I may not agree with what you say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it.

EvilClaw, I think it's more a case of "My Gaff, My Rules."

The beeb hosts this site and provides the professional moderation team for free. Ok, it's technically paid for with out liscence fees, but there's no subscriptions. As such, if they need to moderate a conversation to stop themselves being sued for giving us a place to chat and do all the things h2g2 allow us to do, they should be allowed to do that unhindered. If Godben decides to obstruct the mods then he deserves to have action taken against him. When all he has to do to get all his posting privilages back is apologise then it just shows him up as stubborn, childish and immature.

I've been on pre-mod, and I railed against it for a while, made comments about it being unfair, but when I finally grew up, turned round and took responsibility for my actions and then apologised for them the mods took me off and let me go about my business.

I don't see why any pressure group should be set up against a bunch of people trying to do their job because someone's too immature to admit they were clearly in the wrong.

SayHeyJay, and indeed Godben. I've looked at that response, and here's my reply.

- Wasn't right? So it was wrong then. You stopped the mods doing their job with what you describe as a 'thread blocker'. I'm not sure what that is but it sounds like something code designed to stop TPTB from doing the work they're paid for. That's sabotage, and that's wrong.

- They closed a thread to moderate it and refuse anything that could offend people or lead to the beeb being sued. They blocked the thread to stop it being discussed further and thus create more potentially inflammatory material. So the conversation "moved on" overnight? I've been in threads where posts have been brought up and copied after months, if not years after the original posting. Plus it was, by your own admission a temporary measure. All you had to do to get it back was be patient and ask a day or two later. Instead, you sabotaged the mods ability to do their job.

- As far as I can see your position is that you're cutting your nose off to spite your face by not apologising, and for some convoluted reason you see sabotage as preferable to patience.

Stop being immature and apologise. Otherwise, stop complaining and stop trying to paint the mods as some Orwellian villains.

However, if you don't believe in the campaign there is no reason for you to hang around here. You have stated your point of view. Godben has posted a response offsite that you had no obligation to respond to.

If you like you can start your own thread to express the italics' lack of comparison to Orwellian overseers but coming here to say it is tantamount to going into a PTA meeting and arguing for eating babies.
