OK so I spend far too much time on this h2g2 thing. Now at work they've bought me a nice new computer to play with. My only problem now is will I still be able to acces my user page from this new machine? If not, How can I get round this as I don't want to loose all the stuff I have. I understand that at the mo I may have to re-register - how annoying.

There are two things you can do. Remember the email you were sent when you first registered? The one with the key=1234 etc? Well that link will log you into h2g2 from whichever browser you use it from. So you can either type the whole link in by hand (be careful because if you mistype it won't recognise you) or you could save the link to a text file and transfer it to your new machine. Copy it into the URL field at the top of your browser and press Return. You should get the message telling you you've successfully registered.

I remember that email but AS it was a while ago it looks like its been cleared from my mail box. Of course I may have sent myself a copy to my other address so I'll have to find out once I get home. Failing that, what do I do?

I don't think it's me.. but Jim this is screamingly slow at the moment. It has got slower over the day... can you tell when it's slow without having to surf or have us tell you. Hate to point it out if it is obvious. Congrats on arrival of new editor. That name is stunningly familiar. Either I have seen his books, but there is something else....

Smurf, when you log in at home, on the home page it will say "Welcome [email protected] (Click here if this isn't your e-mail address)" right?
All you have to do is register again from work, using the same e-mail address, and it'll send you a "Welcome to h2g2 again" e-mail with the original key number, so you can hop right in when you use that key (and therefore your current name and stuff) on any computer.

Is it still slow? It was getting really slow over the last week, but I think it's back to normal now. How does it look to you?

It seemed slow as recently as earlier today, but it seems to be okay now. Of course, I have this inconvenient ocean in between me and the server. And also of course, you were asking Peta, but that's my two cents (or pence, whatever) on the matter, whether you like it or not.

Excellent. It was slow yesterday until the afternoon. After that, my changes clicked in and all was well.
I love databases.

Thank you very much. I also noticed the slowness of things on Monday but thought that it was our server playing up (it does from time to time). I'll pay more attention next time.
