Developed by the authors of this book, mind mapping is a method of accessing
intelligence which offers ways of using and improving the memory, concentration and
creativity in planning and structuring thought. A mind map's radiating structure,
reflecting the natural architecture of the brain, allows rapid expansion and exploration
of an idea in note form, with the aim of providing a clear and concise picture or map of
all the relevant interlinked points for inclusion in further written matter, presentations
and reports. Thus an idea can be explored quickly and profoundly whilst a clear focus is
maintained on the central theme. Shapes, colours and dimensions are incorporated as
visual stimulants.

Very handy mental tools, these mind-maps. Speshly if you're a visual type of person.

Worth looking at if you haven't heard of it and are a visual thinker. Lists drive me crazy. I think harder if I do mind maps.

I agree that chat rooms should have no place in the guide proper. I like the idea of the information here growing like coral.
But perhaps the chat happy would be appeased by an occasional chat room opened up on special days, like the anniversary of the site opening.
Think of it as an office party for the field researchers, were they can let their hair down and get embarressed when the boss makes a pass at them.

The only thing pro a chat room is that it might be easier to encourage new writers to join in. It's very easy to wander in and wander out of H2G2 without getting a feel for the place at the moment. Maybe make a chat room to get people in and then send in the bull-dozer later. I personally would like to see a separate 'Hall of residence" not actually within the guide but attached, where we can 'live' whilst we contribute.
