Jim the Wonder Llama (back from yonder)

I've heard a vicious rumour that you have now put another one of our "friends" onto the system. Is this true?

It's a vicious rumour, nothing more. When I get round to it, I'll be expanding the smiley repertoire, but until then, smiley - smileysmiley - sadfacesmiley - winkeyesmiley - bigeyes and smiley - fish are all you're getting.

At the same time, maybe I should make the smileys link to a page telling people how to get them? Do you think people would notice they were linked? That would stop the huge cascades of posts with people asking how to get them every time they appear.

How's this for a problem solver: I made a user-page thing describing how to do it: http://www.h2g2.com/P91478
I think it's a bit patronizing, though. Anyone offended by my tone?

Looks OK to me.

Okay, good. I have this awful tendency to patronize without realizing it, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't one of those.

I think you should put something in along the lines of:
"Hopefully, new smilies will be along shortly.....smiley - winkeye"

The reason I asked the original question was because MadMonk found another one floating around the system.
This can be found at:

What is this if it's not a smiley?

I guess you haven't found the Preview button on forum posts, then?

And don't try and find it. You won't. smiley - tongueout should do it, but the code that munges the text won't do that, yet. Next time we release an upgrade, the extra smileys will work by magic.

I just can't wait after looking at the gif of the tongue poking out smiley. I hope it won't be too long before we are able to use it. smiley - tongueout

Yeah I know, but you really can't do things like >,:,-,) (without the commas) without it turning into something like this >smiley - smiley. Not that I am complaining, but you just have to be carful when doing fancy smileys. smiley - smiley

I hate to be picky, Jim, but it ought to be %-P, according to the Smiley Dictionary.
And the new smiley does work in user pages, as the URL is http://www2.h2g2.com/images/f_bozo.gif . See http://h2g2.com/A72316 for proof. smiley - smiley
