Oops - I am on it again. Wonder how that worked? Hey I see DNA is online - that's cool. Good morning Mr Adams.!

Peta, what Jim explained to me was it tracked people who had posted anything in the last 15 minutes (or something). What's odd is this is my first post of the day, and I'm already showing up on the thing. Whatever.

Hi Spartus. But then why is DNA on it. He doesn't seem to have posted anything. She runs back to check.

No, it's more general than that. It will track any registered researcher as soon as they visit the site, and shows all those who have looked at one of our pages in the last 15 minutes.
I suspect, when it becomes a full-blown feature rather than a hidden extra, people will be able to opt-out of appearing.

If I had wanted to opt out, I could have hard-coded myself out of it.
I'm a friendly sort, really.

I'm looking at a Sunday afternoon in late July or early August. I'm setting up a user page to guage interest so go to my home page and look there. If you register interest it will automatically tell you when there are more firm details and then you can let me know if you are definitely going to be there!

Cool. Do you want me to spread the word at all?

That's getting a little Big Brother, though it's your site to do with as you wish. Can you tell which page's we're looking at, ie which addresses have your pages been accessed by?

Spartus Posted Jun 15, 1999
Yes, I suppose it could seem big brother-ish, but it really is handy to know who's about. They're also going to add a thing so you can hide yourself soon, if you'd rather not be seen.
And I suppose they could see what pages you've been looking at, but who needs to, really?

Well if you can all pitch in to get a poor strapped for cash Aussie to get over to England, I would be willing to attend a game of rounders (not that I know what rounders is)

I hadn't really thought about the possibility, or I guess probability, that DNA himself would surf this site and maybe read something I'd written. When I've read so much *he's* written, it seems kind of spooky.
Please please please don't let him go invisible. It's such an encouragement to the rest of us - and it's not as if knowing someone's there gives you any way to interact with them.

She's planning a them vs us match I think With ten thousand plus researchers to draw on, we should be able to put together a pretty strong team .
Rounders
Peta Posted Jun 15, 1999
Should be okay, they can't be too fit - sitting around tapping into computers all day! We should be onto a winner!
