h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi Jim,

I've suddenly had a problem with Opera, and although I asked on ask h2g2, no-one seemed to recognise the problem.

I was busily posting yesterday, when suddenly I was signed out and couldn't sign back in. I thought it was a Beeb problem, so I went out, but when I got back, I still can't sign in with Opera to my U94986 account.

I opened Firefox and this account and browser is fine, but I'm frightened to sign out in case I can't get back in to this one either.

The error I'm getting is Could not connect to remote server

I've put a couple of line breaks in so that h2g2 doesn't shorten it. It suddenly happened while I was in the middle of reading and posting, so it's not as if I've changed my settings.

I've cleared the cache at croz's suggestion, but I'm really stumped.

Well, that URL is totally wrong - although it's probably a local proxy. Have you tried shutting down Opera and restarting? 192.168.201.178 is a non-standard address, and you should never see that. Make sure you're starting from www.bbc.co.uk. If you end up at 192.168.something then the problem might well be at the BBC end, although I can't imagine what.

It's still doing it Jim. I've turned my zone alarm off, deleted cookies and gone back to the bbc.co.uk page and tried to sign in via other SSO services. I'm now going to delete opera and reinstall it, to see if that helps.

If it's a BBC problem, maybe other people are having trouble too?

I managed to get to a sign in page by going via connector, but it still wouldn't let me in - just gave me another long URL as a reason why it won't let me in.
