Hi Jim,
A few times when I have tried to post, I have been taken to a page with this on it:
>>Greetings unknown hiker

On that page I am still shown as logged in on the SSO bar (by the hello XXX, I'm not XXX thing).
When I click to sign in I get taken to a page that says this:

When I click I go to a posting box that has none of my text in it.
Tonight (8.30am GMT) I had to try 3 times for the post to go through. I have noticed that other researchers have been mentioning difficulties with posting as well.
Not sure if this is relevant, but there seem to have been a spate of problems since the last upgrade.
Thought I'd mention the problem anyway. Any ideas as to what is going on?
cheers,
kea.

Oh, the other thing that has been happening is that sometimes when I try to open my PS I go to a brunel version of my PS. My preferences are set to alabaster. Again, I am shown as still logged in.
Once I got the brunel version with all the sidebars but no posts on it.
The brunel thing has happened half a dozen times tonight.

We've had some server problems over the last few hours. The worst of them should be over, I hope.

Ok, thanks Jim. I'll take it that the unknown hiker page is a new variation on error mesages when there are server problems. I'd not had that before until this month.

It's actually an old variation, it just doesn't happen very often. It's a symptom of the database server going extremely slowly, which thankfully is quite a rare occurrence.
