Hello - I enjoyed meeting you on Saturday, so I thought I'd pop by and say hello. Hopefully we'll get longer to chat at the next meet-up smiley - winkeye

Hi there smiley - smiley

You missed out on the quiz question re: the number of edited entries about the Isle of Wight. Out guess was about 159 smiley - tongueout

Hopefully there'll be another meet soon.

I assume there were more questions to the quiz than just that one - I probably would have embarrassed myself by not knowing the answer. Not quite that many yet, though. (Perhaps only a matter of time...)smiley - winkeye

68, apparently. There were other questions, but they were generally Quite Difficult - which entry does this blob's alt text come from, who wrote this Quote of the Day from a year ago etc.

Still working on the forts, btw. smiley - smiley

That'll be 69 now, since there's one on the 2004 Isle of Wight Festival added this week. I was considering writing one on Historic Postboxes on the Isle of Wight as soon as I visit the Isle of Wight Post Box Museum...

I heard that a version of the quiz was on h2g2 somewhere, but I've not been able to find it.

I hope you're not regretting agreeing to write about the forts too much now. (I dread to suggest adding links to A87725424 Cowes Castle which has since become an edited article where appropriate).

F19585?thread=8290424 for the quiz.

I'm not regretting taking on the project, I just feel silly for taking quite so long. smiley - smiley

Don't worry - you've not taken the longest. There's a short project of mine on Beatles biopics that I wrote ages ago that still hasn't been edited yet.
I'm not writing any more Uni projects at the moment.

Don't suppose you'd be interested in a 66 mile sponsored bike ride on Saturday 30th June? I'd hope to enter with The Fish (U43536), but since our last bike ride resulted in him ending up slightly in hospital he seems strangely reluctant. It's a bike ride on the Island and Mainland for charity, more information can be found here:

I'm working until midnight on the Friday night (just as I have done tonight) so unless I can somehow get that night off there's no way I'd make it to Lymington in time and in a state to cycle 66 miles. smiley - sadface

I can always try, but no promises - the A+E rota I'm on is pretty strict.

Right, I've fired off an email to my consultant, will see what they say.

Let me know if you're able to make it!

I'll be starting off from Southampton.

I've got myself the day off and I've bought a ticket, now all I have to do is break the news to my other half smiley - laugh

Post 13

I've bought a ticket too, but The Fish won't be coming. So where do you live now if you'll be starting in Lymington? If you're happy to wait about an hour or have a lie-in I'll happily meet you in Lymington, or if you'd like you can meet me in Southampton. I'm just hoping that the wind dies down a bit!

The only question is: which of us will write the article about it afterwards smiley - winkeye

I don't live near Lymington - I just assumed for some reason you'd start there until post 11 above. Southampton would be a much better starting point for me!

You can write it, and I'll sub-edit smiley - winkeye

Post 15

Or we could collaborate - I'll write the Island bits and you write about the Mainland smiley - winkeye

Southampton, Lymington, tons of places that are easy to get confused...

My pack arrived yesterday - I'm number 261.

Will you be travelling to Southampton by train? Let me know what time your train's due in, and I'll meet you by the station.

260 smiley - biggrin

I'm planning on staying overnight beforehand and then getting the train home immediately after the cycle. What time would you like to meet up?

Post 18

Bluebottle

How did you get to be one number ahead of me?smiley - yikes

Well, Southampton's the worst place to start considering the ferry from Warsash stops at 6:30am. According to http://www.hytheferry.co.uk/timetable.php the first ferry to Hythe is at 7:30am, so I suppose we should try to be on that one. So is by 7:15am meeting at the Hythe Ferry too early for you? Do you know where the Hythe Ferry is?
Just to mention, my bike's a road bike, not a mountain one.

Post 19

AlexAshman

They're probably not handing them out in the strictest of orders. smiley - laugh

The Hythe ferry is next to the Red Funnel to East Cowes, isn't it? 7.15am would make sense considering I need to get back to Southampton Central and travel home afterwards.

Mine's a hybrid, so also not really a mountain bike.

Post 20

Okay, I look forward to seeing you there! Just working on the fund raising now, and having to make sure my bike's in fully working order.

Shall we exchange mobile numbers in case one of us is running late etc? I'm happy to e-mail you my number, my e-mail address is matthew dot sprack at solent dot ac dot uk.
