h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi from a fellow SF fan - among other things. You seem to be an avid reader and obviously a keen short story writer, so even though this site is closing don't worry, you are INVITED to join me on a vibrant, friendly writers site at www.slingink.co.uk
it's full of friendly talented people who are intent on realising success in their chosen fields. No cliques, no meaningless bullshit gobbledegook, no elitism, just ordinary level-headed amateurs all trying to help each other become professional writers.

Since I have been a member they got me writing short stories - something I never tried - and from just 3 entries I have 2 firsts and a 2nd!!!!!!!!!! 3 entries and 3 published pieces of work!

Most of the members are into Novel writing and short story writing but there's quite a few of us - all Get Writing members - on there who also write comedy-sketches and script/screenplays.

It really is the best site I've been on and in only a couple of months 3 more of the members(besides me) have won first prizes and publication with their short story submissions!

If you join up on there, you will love it. A big disadvantage on here is the 'hit and miss' way in which we communicate with each other - postings can take 3 days to be answered! Not conducive to writing collaboration is it? On slingink, you communicate instantly by posting on the message board threads or on the purpose created chat room. I hope you will check it out and join as a lot of your friends from writersroom are there and more are joining.

The writersroom site has been a unique innovation and cannot be replaced and I will support any move to keep it going. However, I feel that the 'writing is' well and truly 'on the wall' and this being so I urge those friendly talented writers among you who have ambition and want to continue to develop your skills among friendly like-minded people to check out slingink.

Membership is free and there is no harm belonging to both sites even if this site is granted a reprieve.

A lot of Get Writing members have already joined slingink and all have been glad they joined and you may know some of them.

Oh, and like myself, there is a good percentage of 'older' writers - in their 40's and 50's - so you may find you fit in on that score as well.
