I've decided to change my screen name to [33] for want of a change. I still answer to phil, or [33]. The number was chosen specially for a very specific (and very very geeky) reason.

Nope, it was changed first to [p], the calling card I used to leave at Lil's atelier when I couldn't stop. For some reason I was playing at finding out what my computer gets as the keycode when certain keys are pressed. It turned out that p has a keycode of 33 on my system so I decided to use that. (told you it was a strange geeky reason )

I haven't thought about keycodes since 1992, when I wrote a small program for setting or clearing the Caps and Num Locks on an MS-DOS computer.

You are probably using the wrong keyboard driver: KEYB and all that. You can always type in a "\" by using Alt-092.

I did fix it in the end with a custom keyboard driver which I need to remember to put in the command line to run dos. The problems of trying to run one OS (DOS) under another (Linux).
