Just thought I would say goodbye.
I am leaving the site, not to return. Having read most of what’s been posted in the short story section, I feel that I just can’t relate to it. These emotional ‘flashes’ that seem to dominate, do my head in. I was hoping to read some good stuff and learn a bit, instead I have found a rather anal clique congratulating each other on writing total crap.
That sounds very harsh…I have read some very good stuff (yours included) but when I calculate the time I have spent reading introspective cliché ridden nonsense, it’s just not worth it. (Please, don’t think I have an over inflated view of my own work…I haven’t…I know it’s very ordinary.) There are only so many hours in the day after all.
I have appreciated all the nice comments I have received from people over the last few weeks about the things I have posted, but I feel it’s time to move on.
Beans.

G'bye BOT,
Sorry you've come to that conclusion. You're right of course that not everyone is turning in cut-glass prose but think back to your own beginnings - it has to be worked thro'. Even after writing (most of it as my job) for near half a century I still find myself coming up with crap on many occasions.
I think the secret about reading is to do what the editors do - skim everything till something clicks then give that your close attention.
Otherwise you'll drown is shite, as you appear to have done.
I think the site is valuable and fun and it's nice to get an informed crit. now and then and certainly, for me, even an uninformed compliment makes my day! That's the Leo personality for you.
You gotta do what you gotta ... but if you're serious about writing, BoT, and I believe you are, please reconsider abandoning ship. Who knows what glorious little paradise island might not be just round the corner. (Do they have corners at sea?) Ah well.
Whatever you decide - keep on writing. There's always someone better and always a lot who're worse. We do it, in my opinion, for ourselves and that's not a bad thing.
Good luck and good writing.
