the rat race

just a thought I had this morning - hoping others may find interesting and have thoughts to add -
is it a myth that the Western world lives at a faster pace of life - one embroiled in competition and money and comparison with each others' lives? that in the east the pace of life is slower and people have more time for trusting their intuition, that they know what is truly important and therefore lead happier lives?
any thoughts?
or do they in truth in the east live a rat race not dissimilar to us. perhaps it is more applicable to the poor in their society as there are far more poor people? is this true? and they are scratching to survive like many people here?
I am fascinated to hear people's thoughts,
Zappy
