frontiersman: a long time away!

Post 1

Ron J

Hi lil,

I seek your good counsels yet again!

It looks very much as though I won't be able to don my old skin ever again (as frontiersman: researcher No U1258998, and a Miner in the old Underguide) especially as the system has changed so much. It's a pity really, as I have written so much in that skin that I would like to re-connect with.

If there is any way around the problem I would like to explore it.

Please mention it to your BBC H2G2 colleagues for me.

If it is no longer possible, then I'll have to be content with my new identity in the galaxy !

Hi Ron,

Sorry to be so long getting back to you, I haven't been online for a few days myself.

I will email the Eds and get them to have a look and see what can be done, although if you failed to use the new Sign-in for Frontiersman before the cut off date last year, then I'm afraid you will have lost it completely. However, it might still be possible for the Eds to move your Edited Guide Entries and your Underguide Badge across to your new account.

Ron, are you aware that Hootoo is being sold off by the BBC? It is likely to close the site this summer, as our Editors will be moving on, or made redundant, whichever comes first. As yet we haven't heard of any new owners as negotiations are still on going.

lil xx

Sorry Ron J, when we moved over to the new iD sign-in/registration system, there was a period of time when users could upgrade their old accounts to the new system (as long as those accounts had been active for the last 9 months). Sadly that window of opportunity has long since passed. However, if you need any help transferring stuff over from your old account to your new account, such as the GuideML for your About Me section or Editing rights for any Entries, just give us a shout. smiley - ok

Hi there, kind Editors-in-Chief!

Thank you for your helpful reply which I have only just read, as I've been preoccupied with 'other-worldly' matters since I wrote the latest request!

If it doesn't present too much of a problem or occupy a lot of your time, I'd love to be able to transfer anything I can from my old 'frontiersman' identity. (Bit of a change from the 'Bourne Identity' eh wot!, which has played on certain channels (ahem!!), together with its other great manifestations, almost every week of the year! Good stories though).

No hurry, dear people, I'm retired so quite laid back about the lapse of time!

Thank you too, lil,

As ever dear girl you've come up with the goods; as far as you are able to anyway in the circumstances of all the changes of recent months, and the prospects, or otherwise, of the future of h2g2.

I feel, and hope for you all that some far-seeing billionaire will buy this 'unique universe' and keep all that is good about it. The site has a definite didactic role in that it encourages us all to think, write, read, act as helpful critics, each one to the other, and by that interaction develop in our multifarious ways. Although I'm retired, and now 71, I love to learn new skills, and keep my old ones sharp.

Bye for now,

Ron J Cheers!smiley - bubblysmiley - cakesmiley - choc

Hi Ron J,

Just letting you know we've transferred any Entries you once wrote or co-wrote to your new Personal Space, along with the your old badges and the introductory text to your original frontiersman page. Sadly, we cannot transfer Journal Entries or old messages: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/U13888848

All the best,

Dear H2G2 Editors-in-Chief,

You have most kindly, and pleasingly exceeded all my expectations in transferring all the main articles, badges, personal 'CV', etc. from my old frontiersman skin to my new survivorno1 skin.

I know this must have taken some clever manipulation on your part, and for going to that length and trouble on my behalf you have my grateful thanks.

I do hope H2G2 continues to exist and flourish, and that its future will be decided very soon.
