Your dislikes that I agree with are Bigots: definiatly don't like these, Salesmen: well I've been on of these, mabee it speaks volumes that I'm not one any more (I'm too honest). Phone Bills: I hate them, have you checked out the link to http//www.Localtel.co.uk yet cause I am writing this and posting this for free. Celene Dion: I like some of her songs but I agree with you about her, she is one strange indevidual. Cruelty to Cats: I don't like cruelty of any kind. Managers: fourtunatly for me I've never been clever enough to get a job, I've allways had to work for myself so I've never had a manager to like or dislike.

Hi. Yes thanks, I looked at the LocalTel link and it sounds great.

Do you have to join up for a minimum period?

Is there any way I can get a screaming.net disc without journeying to my (not so) local Tempo?

Where's the catch??!

Has the bit at the bottom of the page telling you the forum you're replying to always been there (would've saved endless hiking round the cheddar gorge!), or is it the latest 'thang'?

Thanks for dropping by. Glad to hear you're no longer a salesman! ("Sign up to LocalTel!!!") Got a tattoo yet?

You can sign up on line to screaming.net at http://signup.screaming.net/ I don't think you need the disc but you have to be using IE5 to do it this way.

I have been a localtel customer since June and so far I haven't found any catches, Localtel promise that while you are their customer you will allways have the free connection to the internet, its not a ploy to get you to sign up with them.
When you change your BT account to Localtel the minimum period is 1 year. But you have nothing to lose cause it dosen't cost anything to change to Localtel, plus the phone calls are cheeper and you get the free connection to screaming.net.
The only drawback I have noticed is the download times are a bit slower but being as you are connected for free who cares. If I connect to the internet during the day I connect to my other ISP cause of the lownload times being a bit faster.

Go to http://www.localtel.co.uk/ then click on the "S" button for sevices then click on "Frequently Asked Questions" this page will tell you everything you need to know.

Yes I think it is the lastest 'thang'
There seems to have been lots of changes on h2g2.

Salespeople: Don't you just lum em. I had one of the window telesales people on the phone yesturday and I had to laugh, the conversation went like this, "I'm not trying to sell you anything, If you wanted to change any windows or doors how many would you change" to which I replied "None, I have just sold my house" she then asked "are you thinking of replaceing any at the house your moving to" smiley - smiley

No tattoo yet.

Yes, I've noticed that the latest ploy of salespeople is to insist (on being asked "what are you selling?") "I'm not selling anything". I had one at the door the other day from a double-glazing company (there's generally at least five a week from double glazing companies 'not trying to sell you anything'), and he was very insistent that he simply wanted to give me some FREE windows! I eventually told him it wasn't my house, I was moving anyway, and they didn't have windows where I'm going!!

I went to Tempo today, and was told they were no longer issuing the CDs as LocalTel have had an unprecedented response (apparently lots of people want free connection, can't think why), and anyway it's a very slow service, lots of problems, etc, and would I like to buy a computer!?!

Thanks, I might try signing up on-line, although I haven't got IE5, but I think it's freely available, if you don't mind sitting around for an hour waiting for it to download! (Actually, I would like to buy a new computer, but not any of the ones I saw at Tempo!!)

I can recommend IE5. It has lots of improvements on the preveious versions. If you can't be bothered to download it online you can find it on a lot of the free cd roms that they give away with computer magazines. the one to look for is Internet @ccess Made Easy.

I think Tempo must have been intructed not to distribute the screaming.net cd for the time being because of the huge response and Localtel need time to proccess all the new customers.
When I tranfered my account I had to ring BT to find out why BT were taking so long to tranfer my account, the person I spoke to at BT said they were very sorry for the delay but they had underestimated the amount of people who wanted to change to Localtel, BT obviously don't want to take on extra staff to process customers who are leaving.

Think I might have bought that mag the other day, but haven't had time to look at it yet (!!)

Yep, I remember now, the Tempo salesman said that BT had been less than helpful - strangely.

Where can a horse get a drink round here?
