B&W Photo article comments

Phil

You asked for some comments, here's some to think about...

The title is B&W Photog. Process, The first line talks about B&W printing. Is the article about B&W photo in general or printing?
Perhaps it should be something like "Producing a B&W photograph (yourself/by hand?) is simpler/easier than a colour photograph, most photographers learn this process/method first"

Add a footnote with the C41 process B&W films (Kodak select B&W+400 and Ilford XP2 Super).

The sections on cameras. Not sure what this section is trying to do. Lots of info which isn't totally relavent to the B&W photo process. There should be another article on the different types of cameras. I think it needs cutting to the bare minimum that if you've a camera then you're likely to be able to do this B&W lark.

Developing section. I think the basic process points (currently seperate paragraphs) should be in either a bulleted list or a numbered list (as you do part 1 then 2 etc). The footnotes describing what developer, fixer and stop do, not sure if they should be incorporated into the main text or not
para 1 Are you describing a daylight development tank? If so mention what it is (and why because currently we're in pitch black).
para 2 Are we still in darkness? Would make it hard to measure smiley - winkeye
para 5 What's Photo-Flo?

Printing section. May be worth noting that the processing of the print is very similar to that of the negative (well you're doing pretty much the same thing so it should be smiley - smiley)

Thanks Phil.smiley - smiley That's plenty to consider.

I wasn't sure what to do about the cameras bit, as they were in the researcher's original article, although it's probably more than you need to know in this instance. I did discuss changing the title with the researcher concerned, but I don't think they were keen. The difficult part for me about this particular entry is that photography was something i was already planning on writing about, and am in fact intending to do a uni project on (fancy signing yourself up for some of that?smiley - winkeye) I don't want to chop great chunks out of someone else's work and then later end up writing something very similar myself. I suppose I'll have to go back and discuss it with the original author again.

I'll look into all those points you made, and see what I can do (without keeping this entry waiting too much longer). Thanks for taking the time to look it over.smiley - smiley

I had a look at some of the peer review comments after writing all that earlier and one of them was about the cameras bit.
You could always pass the thing about the cameras up the line, that's what the editors are there for smiley - bigeyes

You never know I might just write something for the guide again, given sufficient motivation smiley - winkeye

Not quite. I did come up with the idea of maybe doing something on simple astrophotography but that will have to wait till I've tried it!
Maybe even a thing on pinhole stuff, again after I've tried it.
How's that for a couple of ideas for ya smiley - tongueout

I wanna find out for myself what's going on with them (or anything) before I commit to writing an article.

Yeah, typical bloke afraid of commitment, wants to leave everything a vague as possible in case of a change of mind later. Bit like most women then smiley - winkeye
